how to take anjeer - #24955

Alexander

I am really confused about how to take anjeer. I’ve heard a lot about its benefits for digestive issues and overall health, so I bought some dried anjeer a few weeks ago. The thing is, I’m not sure if I’m using it right. I've been snacking on a few pieces here and there, but I feel like I could be doing more. Like, should I soak them first or eat them raw? I read somewhere that soaking might help with digestion, but then I also saw a video where they just ate them as they are. Also, I sometimes feel bloated after eating them, which is weird since I thought anjeer was supposed to help with that. Maybe I'm eating too many at once? I'm really just not clear on how to take anjeer effectively. Anyone have tips or a specific way that’s worked for you? Really hope to get this sorted out!

It sounds like your exploration with anjeer (figs) is in progress, and you’re rightly thinking about how best to consume them. Anjeer is indeed beneficial for digestion but taking them the wrong way or in excess can sometimes lead to feeling bloated, as you’ve experienced. This happens because anjeer is naturally rich in fiber, and consuming a large amount can overwhelm the digestive system, especially if one’s digestive fire (agni) is low or imbalanced.

For optimal digestion and absorption of the nutrients in anjeer, it’s often helpful to soak them in water overnight. The soaking softens the fiber and makes it easier to digest, reducing the bloating sensation. You can eat the soaked anjeer first thing in the morning or integrate them into your breakfast. Just 2-3 soaked figs a day are usually sufficient to get the benefits without causing discomfort.

Another option is to prepare anjeer milk. For this, soak a few figs overnight and then boil them in milk in the morning. Drink this preparation warm. It not only aids digestion but also strengthens bones and boosts energy.

If you want to eat them raw, ensure you’re not overdoing it. Raw anjeer should be consumed in moderation—about 1 or 2 at a time is good if you’re prone to bloating. To enhance digestion and balance the body’s Vata dosha, you may sprinkle some fennel or cardamom powder on the figs before consuming.

Hydration plays a key role as well. Drinking enough water throughout the day assists in managing the fiber content. If bloating persists or if you have underlying digestive issues like IBS, it’s good to consult with an Ayurvedic practitionar to tailor the advice to your specific dosha and conditions. Meanwhile, make sure to keep track of how your body reacts and adjusts your intake accordingly.
