When dealing with a stomach ulcer during pregnancy, caution is key in managing both digestive health and nourishing your growing baby. First and foremost, it’s essential to focus on foods that help pacify the aggravated Pitta dosha that’s often behind hyperacidity and ulcers. Foods to avoid include spicy, sour, and overly salty items, as they can exacerbate acid production. Limit intake of tomatoes, citrus fruits, and particularly spicy foods, as well as processed and fried foods.
Curd may not be recommended if experiencing ulcers due to its tendency to increase heat and potential for exacerbating acidity. If curd is a part of your regular diet, consider having buttermilk instead, churned with a pinch of cumin or coriander powder to help with digestion. About milk, it may provide a cooling effect and soothe irritation, but it’s critical to ensure it’s consumed warm rather than cold. A good option is to have it with a bit of turmeric, which could help in reducing inflammation.
As for dry fruits, moderation is advised. They can be heavy and sometimes hard to digest, especially if you have a sensitive stomach or ulcers. Soaking almonds overnight and peeling them before consuming is considered gentle on digestion and can be more nourishing. Raisins soaked overnight may also be soothing to the gut, due to their natural sweetness and moisture content aiding in calming the digestive tract.
Hydrating and grounding fruits like bananas and melons could be beneficial, as they are typically pitta-pacifying and may assist in soothing the digestive tract. Always remember to eat your fruits separately from meals to facilitate optimal digestion and absorption.
Integrating these dietary alterations while monitoring your body’s responses and prioritizing regular, small meals can significantly aid in managing hyperacidity during pregnancy. If any symptoms intensify or you experience significant discomfort, consulting your healthcare provider is crucial for safety and peace of mind. Remember that individual needs can vary, so tailor these recommendations to suit your particular responses and needs.
