••Namaste. As an Ayurvedic practitioner, I view dark circles (Karshya or Varnavashada around the eyes) and facial pigmentation (Vyanga) not just as superficial cosmetic issues, but as external reflections of your internal physiology. Internal Cleansing & Blood Purification (Abhyantara Chikitsa) To cure pigmentation permanently, we must clear the heat (Pitta) from the liver and blood. ••Kumaryasava: Take 15–20 ml of ••Kumaryasava with an equal quantity of lukewarm water twice a day, about 20 minutes after meals. This is excellent for liver metabolism and blood purification. ••Maha Manjisthadi Kwath: Manjistha is the ultimate Raktashodhaka (blood purifier) in Ayurveda. Take 15 ml of this liquid mixed with 15 ml of warm water on an empty stomach in the morning and evening. It directly targets facial pigmentation (Vyanga). ••Amalaki Rasayana: Take 1 teaspoon of Amalaki (Amla) powder or an Amalaki tablet with water at bedtime. Amla is rich in Vitamin C, cooling to Pitta, and acts as a powerful antioxidant to reduce melanin production. 2. Topical Applications (Lepa & Taila) The skin around the eyes is incredibly delicate. We must use formulations that nourish without causing irritation. For the Dark Circles: ••Kumkumadi Tailam (The Golden Elixir): After washing your face at night, take just 1 to 2 drops of authentic Kumkumadi Tailam on your ring fingers. Gently pat and massage it in a clockwise and counter-clockwise motion around the eyes. Leave it overnight. Saffron (Kumkuma) and sandalwood (Chandana) in the oil naturally break down melanin and improve microcirculation. ••Cucumber & Potato Lepa: Grate fresh cucumber and potato, squeeze out the juice, and mix them equally. Soak cotton pads in this cool juice and place them over your eyes for 15–20 minutes daily. Potato contains natural bleaching enzymes, while cucumber cools the localized Pitta. For Facial Pigmentation: ••Ayurvedic Anti-Pigmentation Pack: Mix 1 teaspoon of Rakta Chandana (Red Sandalwood powder), ½ teaspoon of Manjistha powder, and a pinch of Yastimadhu (Licorice powder). Make a paste using raw milk (if skin is dry) or rose water (if skin is oily). Apply it to the pigmented areas of your face, let it dry for 15 minutes, and wash off with plain water. Do this 3 times a week. 3. Dietary Regimen (Ahar to Pacify Pitta) Your skin is a direct reflection of what you digest. ••What to Avoid: Strictly reduce the intake of Katu (pungent), Amla (sour), and Lavana (salty) foods. This means staying away from green/red chilies, pickles, fermented foods (like stale curd or idli/dosa batter), excessive tea/coffee, and deep-fried items, as they ignite Pitta and corrupt the blood. ••What to Include: Hydrate well. Drink water stored in a copper vessel or plain warm water. Include cooling foods like pomegranate, sweet grapes, soaked almonds, raisins, and vegetables like bottle gourd (Lauki), ridge gourd (Turai), and cucumber. ••Ahar Prayog: Eat 5-6 soaked and peeled almonds and 10 soaked black raisins every morning. This builds Ojas (vitality) and improves skin luster. 4. Lifestyle & Rejuvenation (Vihar) ••Netra Tarpana / Eye Care: Avoid late nights. Sleeping by 10:00 PM is crucial because the hours between 10:00 PM and 2:00 AM are the Pitta-dominant period where the liver detoxifies the body. Poor sleep during this window drastically worsens dark circles. ••Padabhyanga (Foot Massage): Before sleeping, rub a little warm Gau Ghrita (Cow’s Ghee) or Sesame oil on the soles of your feet for 5 minutes. Ayurveda states there are specific nerves in the feet directly connected to the eyes and vision; this practice calms Vata, induces deep sleep, and reduces dark circles
