biliary colic - #17292

Anonymously

About three months ago, I started getting these sudden, intense pains on the right side of my upper belly, right under my ribs. The first time, I thought it was just gas or something I ate, but it was so sharp that I could barely sit still. It lasted for like an hour and then just disappeared. Since then, it's happened a few more times, usually after eating something heavy or oily. I looked it up, and it sounds a lot like biliary colic, but I’m not completely sure. I finally went to a doctor last week, and they said it could be gallstones causing biliary colic. They did an ultrasound and found small stones in my gallbladder, but they said there’s nothing to do right now unless it gets worse. Their only solution? Surgery, if it starts happening more often. But I really don’t want to remove my gallbladder if I can help it. I feel like there has to be another way to stop these attacks and maybe even dissolve the stones. That’s why I started looking into Ayurveda. I read that there are herbs that can help break down gallstones and improve bile flow. Is there actually an Ayurvedic treatment for biliary colic that works? Can it really help dissolve the stones, or is that just a myth? Also, are there specific foods I should avoid completely to prevent another attack? Some days I feel fine, but I don’t wanna keep living in fear of the next attack hitting randomly. If I start an Ayurvedic treatment, how long does it usually take to see improvement? And do I need to take anything long-term, or can my gallbladder actually heal fully? I’d rather fix this naturally than wait for it to get worse and end up needing surgery.

In Ayurveda, gallstones and biliary colic are often linked to an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which can lead to excess heat and bile in the body. To help dissolve gallstones and prevent attacks, Ayurvedic treatments focus on cooling and detoxifying the liver and gallbladder. Herbs like Triphala, Turmeric, and Guduchi are known for their ability to support liver function, improve bile flow, and reduce inflammation. Additionally, using a formula like Phyllanthus Niruri can help break down stones and reduce the risk of further formation. Dietary changes are also important—avoiding heavy, oily, and fried foods, as well as processed and spicy foods, can reduce bile stagnation and prevent pain. You should focus on a light, easy-to-digest diet with plenty of fresh vegetables and whole grains, and avoid overeating. It typically takes a few weeks to months of consistent herbal treatment and dietary changes to see significant improvement, and ongoing use of Ayurvedic herbs can help maintain liver health. While Ayurveda can support healing, it is important to monitor symptoms with your doctor to avoid complications.
