Dark circles - #19990
I have used several creams + home remedies for my dark circles. My hb is 11.9 so it's normal, I guess the major reason for my dark circles is based on genetics and mobile screen rays reflection, as my sleeping schedule is good.

Hi Humna,
It sounds like you’re taking good care of your sleep and overall health, but dark circles can be tricky. Can you tell me if you experience any puffiness or irritation around the eyes? Do you notice the dark circles becoming worse after long hours on the phone or screen? And is there any family history of dark circles?
In Ayurveda, dark circles are often linked to imbalances in Vata and Pitta, as well as blood circulation around the eyes. I recommend using Almond oil or Rose water as a gentle eye treatment to improve circulation and nourish the skin. Applying a paste of Saffron and Milk can also help lighten the area. Since you mentioned screen exposure, try incorporating regular breaks for your eyes, and consume cooling foods like cucumber or mint to reduce the strain.
In diet add the natural blood purifier like beetroot…take more water to hydrate the skin like have coconut water…take more anti oxcident fruits like orange … apply the face pack with yashtimadhu powder+ chandana powder+manjishta powder mixed with milk or curd if skin tone is dry or if skin tone is oily you can mix with rose water apply paste evenly after dreing remove the paste and take the gentle steem of hot water
Hello Humna, Thanks for sharing your concern. Dark circles can occur due to genetics, screen exposure, or strain around the eyes, even if your hemoglobin is normal. From an Ayurvedic perspective, they are often linked to Pitta and Vata imbalance, leading to thin skin and poor blood circulation around the eyes. Try these remedies- Applying a paste of Aloe Vera gel mixed with a pinch of Turmeric & Sandalwood paste around your eyes for 10-15 minutes daily can help. You can also use Rose Water soaked cotton pads as a compress to soothe tired eyes and gently massage with Kumkumadi Taila at night for skin nourishment. Including foods rich in antioxidants like Amla, Pomegranate, and leafy greens, staying hydrated, and reducing excess salt intake will further benefit. Following the 20-20-20 rule when using screens (every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds) can prevent strain. Taking Triphala Churna (1 tsp with warm water at bedtime) to detoxify and support skin health, along with Brahmi vati (1 tablet twice daily) to reduce stress and improve circulation, can also help reduce dark circles over time.
Dark circles can indeed have multiple contributory factors like genetics and screen exposure. While you mention your hemoglobin levels are normal, it might still be useful to maintain adequate iron-rich foods in your diet—such as spinach or lentils. This supports your systemic health, indirectly aiding in reducing dark circles. Your suspicion about genetics is insightful, and while you can’t change your genes, several Ayurvedic approaches could help manage the condition.
First, let’s talk about your daily routine. If your job requires prolonged screen exposure, consider taking breaks every 20 minutes. It’s called the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This reduces eye strain, which in turn may help with those dark circles.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, the imbalance of Vata and Pitta dosha may contribute to dark circles. So, you could benefit from practicing Trataka, an Ayurvedic eye exercise, where you gaze steadily at a candle flame or a faraway object for 2-3 minutes. It promotes eye health and can help balance these doshas.
Consider using natural eye packs like grated cucumber or potato. Apply to your closed eyelids for about 15 minutes daily—these are cooling and help reduce pigmentation. A paste made from almond oil might also be beneficial given its rich vitamin E content—apply a few drops under your eyes before bed.
Ensure your diet is rich in water-content fruits like watermelon—hydration can significantly impact skin health. Reducing salty foods may also prevent fluid retention and puffiness around the eyes.
Lastly, consider Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha or Brahmi, which can be consumed as supplements after consulting an ayurvedic practitioner to ensure compatibility with your body constitution.
Implement these remedies consistently, with patience they should show gradual improvement; these aren’t overnight solutions, so it’s key to be persistent.
