Since no structural issues (like PCOD) have been found, your irregular periods may be due to hormonal imbalances, stress, poor digestion, or weak reproductive energy (Apana Vata imbalance). Ayurveda focuses on regulating the cycle naturally with herbs, diet, and lifestyle changes. If interested I can guide you further

Hi chakshu,

Irregular periods can be caused by multiple factors, including lifestyle, occupation, stress, sleep patterns, and weight fluctuations (both overweight and underweight). To regulate your menstrual cycle, follow these simple yet effective steps:

1. Maintain an Active Lifestyle Engage in at least 30 to 35 minutes of physical activity daily. You can choose from:

Surya Namaskara

Brisk walking

Stretching exercises

Strength training

2. Eat a Balanced Diet Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your daily meals.

Consume mixed seeds (flaxseeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, etc.) for hormonal balance.

Drink Moringa juice or Aloe Vera juice twice a week .

Stay hydrated with hot jeera (cumin) water or methi (fenugreek) water, which help in hormonal regulation.

It sounds frustrating to deal with irregular periods for such a long time. In Ayurveda, irregular periods can be seen as an imbalance in the Vata and Pitta doshas. When Vata is imbalanced, it can cause inconsistency in menstrual flow; a dominant Pitta may lead to inflammation and discomfort. Here’s a detailed plan to help manage and possibly regularize your cycle through Ayurveda:

1. Dietary Adjustments: - Focus on a warm, nourishing diet to pacify Vata. Include warm soups, stews, and whole grains. Avoid raw and cold foods as they can aggravate Vata. - Opt for milder spices like cumin, coriander, and fennel — these improve digestion and balance doshas. - Limit caffeine and spicy, acidic, or fried foods. They can increase Pitta, affecting menstrual health.

2. Lifestyle Tips: - Establish a regular daily routine. Try to wake up and sleep at the same time each day to balance your body’s internal clock. - Continue with light exercises like walking or yoga but avoid over-exerting as it can worsen Vata.

3. Herbal Support: - Herbs like Ashwagandha and Shatavari can help. Ashwagandha stabilizes Vata, reducing stress and anxiety, while Shatavari nourishes reproductive tissues. - Prepare a decoction of ginger and fennel seeds. Having it daily may aid in improving flow regulation. Boil a teaspoon of each in water and drink it warm.

4. Mindfulness: - Stress can impact your period cycle significantly. Engage in stress-reducing activities such as meditation or deep-breathing exercises daily.

5. Massage and Warm Baths: - Abhyanga (self-massage with warm sesame oil) before bath can help calm Vata. - Warm baths, especially during menstruation, can help ease cramps and improve flow.

Consistency is key, and it may take few months to notice changes. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to fine-tune this approach based on your Prakriti. If you continue to experience issues, or if there’s significant concern, consider a follow-up with a health professional to ensure there’s no underlying condition needing immediate medical attention.
