Dealing with persistant knee pain can be frustrating, especially when painkillers provide only temporary relief. From an Ayurvedic perspective, knee pain with your descriped symptoms might suggest imbalances in the Vata dosha, which governs movement and also drynes. Consider these suggestions to restore balance and relieve discomfort: First, focus on your diet to pacify Vata. Choose warm, cooked foods that'll nourish the body. Soups, stews and Kitchari are good options. Add generous amounts of ghee or olive oil, as these fats aspire to lubricate joints. Spices such as ginger, turmeric and ashwagandha are know for their anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce swelling. Lifestyle modifications can also be beneficial. Try gentle exercises like swimming or cycling that don't put unnecessary stress on the knee joint. Yoga poses, such as the "Tadasana" and "Virabhadrasana" can improve strength and flexibility without putting a lot of weight on your knees. It's advisable to practice under guidance of a trained instructor, especially if you're new to yoga. Regular massaging of the affected knee with Ayurvedic oils like Mahanarayana or Dhanwantharam thailam can also benefit. Warm the oil slightly before application, applying gentle circular movements around the joint. This helps promotes blood circulation and reduces pain. Additionally, maintaining a regular sleep schedule and daily routines can help stabilize the Vata dosha. Try to avoid cold and windy environments if possible and keep your knee warm using protective gear or warm wraps. If the pain persists or increases in intensity, it's essential to consult a professional Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized treatment plan, as well as consider seeing an orthopedician to rule out any underlying issues that might not show up on an x-ray. Please make sure not to discontinue your current medication without consulting your healthcare provider.
