Struggling with low weight, fatigue, and delayed periods – Ayurvedic insight? - #21833

Emilie

I have a very skinny body type and no matter what I eat, I don’t gain weight. Recently, I’ve also been feeling constant fatigue, even after 8 hours of sleep. When i walk a little i feel i had to sit down. In the last few months, my periods have also become irregular — delayed by 2 to 3 dats later their predicted date. I'm 20 years. I want to understand the Ayurvedic root cause behind this. Could this be a Vata-Pitta imbalance, low Ojas, or something else? I’m looking for daily habits, food suggestions, and natural remedies to bring balance, improve energy, and support healthy weight and menstrual health — without harsh side effects.

In your case, the low body weight, fatigue, and irregular periods point towards a possible imbalance involving Vata dosha predominantly, along with a possible element of weakened Agni and low Ojas. Vata, when imbalanced, can lead to undernourishment and irregular menstrual cycles due to its cold, dry, and mobile qualities. Let’s delve into practical steps to help stabilize these imbalances.

Begin by establishing a daily routine (dinacharya) to ground Vata. Wake up early around 6:30 am and aim to sleep by 10 pm to improve restfulness. Consistency is key to balancing Vata.

For diet, opt for warm, oily, and nourishing foods. Include ghee, whole grains like brown rice, mung dal, and root vegetables. Spices such as ginger, cumin, and turmeric can ignite Agni. Avoid raw, cold foods and excessive caffeine, which may aggravate Vata and impair digestion.

Incorporate practices for relaxation and stress reduction, such as gentle Yoga and Pranayama. A short daily meditation could profoundly affect your overall energy levels and menstrual stability.

Try an Abhyanga, a gentle self-massage with sesame or almond oil before showering, to soothe Vata further. It provides nourishment and supports healthy Ojas, improving stamina and skin health.

Ayurvedic herbs can also assist. Ashwagandha is particularly effective for strength and grounding. You could take it in a powdered form mixed with warm milk before sleeping. Shatavari is another herb that’ll aid reproductive health.

While these suggestions work towards holistic well-being; tracking any significant worsening of symptoms is crucial. Consider consulting an Ayurvedic physician if needing a more tailored therapeutic intervention. But, if your fatigue or other symptoms rapidly escalate consult with a physician since they can indicate more serious conditions that need immediate attention.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
