Doctors’ responses
Hello Nidhi, is the acne inflammed or dry black spots? Is there any redness or burning sensation? Do you suffer from any specific gut issues? Please specify. How are your menstrual periods?
To address your acne issues and dark spots, particularly those that worsen during your menstrual cycle, a comprehensive approach focusing on balancing hormones, detoxifying the body, and supporting skin health can be beneficial. Since you’re already following a sattvic diet and drinking moringa and spearmint tea, which are excellent choices, let’s build upon this foundation. Increasing antioxidant-rich foods such as berries, citrus fruits, and green leafy vegetables can help combat oxidative stress and support skin health. Including healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and seeds is also beneficial for your skin. Additionally, incorporating fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or kimchi can promote gut health, which is essential for skin clarity. Continuing to drink plenty of water is key for hydration and detoxification. For Ayurvedic remedies, consider using Triphala, which supports digestion and detoxifies the gut, and neem, known for its antibacterial properties, which can help reduce acne; you can consume neem leaves or neem powder in warm water or use neem oil topically on affected areas. Tulsi (Holy Basil) is another excellent option, as drinking tulsi tea or using tulsi extract can help detoxify the body and reduce acne. To cleanse the gut, start your day with warm water mixed with lemon juice to stimulate digestion, increase your intake of fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for regular bowel movements, and consider adding psyllium husk to your diet as a natural fiber supplement. If suitable for you, intermittent fasting can help promote detoxification. Additionally, managing stress through practices such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing exercises, along with ensuring adequate sleep, plays a crucial role in skin health and hormonal balance. For your skincare routine, use gentle, non-comedogenic products to avoid irritation, and incorporate a good exfoliant with natural ingredients to improve dark spots and overall skin texture. A face pack made from sandalwood powder mixed with rose water can soothe inflammation and improve skin tone. If issues persist, consulting a healthcare provider or Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized recommendations tailored to your specific needs is advisable, as regular follow-ups can help monitor any underlying conditions contributing to your skin concerns.
It sounds like the acne you’re experiencing is quite variable and might be tied to hormonal changes, especially since it worsens during your menstrual cycle. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this could be related to an imbalance in your Pitta dosha, which is often linked to skin issues and inflammation. Even though you’re on a sattvic diet, which is generally great, there might be some tweaks we can make, and some cleansing stuff too.
Acne that’s connected with periods often suggests that there’s a correlation with your body’s hormonal balance. Spearmint tea is already a solid choice for hormonal acne, as it tends to have anti-androgenic properties. Keep at it! But since you’re talking about doing a gut cleanse, I suggest either a gentle cleanse rather than something harsh.
You can start with Triphala. It’s like an Ayurvedic wonder that helps cleanse and support the gut health. Try taking 1 tsp of Triphala powder mixed in warm water before bedtime. But, like, be gentle with how your body feels and adjust if needed. Also, make sure your digestion (Agni) is balanced. That’s super important, right? Including digestive spices like cumin, turmeric, and ginger in your meals can help with that.
For the dark spots, applying a paste of sandalwood and rose water, once or twice a week could be soothing. Also, a mask made of turmeric and chickpea flour mixed with a little milk or water may help to brighten the skin. Be persistent but don’t overdo it, skin needs time to heal.
When it comes to lifestyle, stress and emotions can aggravate acne too. Daily practices like yoga or meditation, even short ones, can be nice add-ons to keep stress in check. If stress feels overwhelming, consider where you might incorporate relaxation into, you know, your routine.
If these changes don’t bring relief or if your symptoms get worse, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional. Sometimes you just need a little extra help beyond lifestyle changes, you know what I mean? Be safe and patient with your body.
