When digestion feels sluggish and symptoms like gas, gurgling sounds, and constipation persist, it’s important to look at strengthening agni, or digestive fire, as per Ayurveda teachings. An imbalance in vata could cause these issues, leading to accumulated ama (toxins). Since chitrakadi vati helps you, it can be a good suport, but let’s consider few more steps. Begin with triphala, it promotes digestion and regular bowel movements. Take 1 teaspoon of triphala powder with warm water before bed every night.
Next, focus on your eating habits. Opt for warm, freshly cooked meals that are easier on digestion and include spices like cumin, ginger, and fennel to aid digestive fire. Avoid raw, cold, or heavy foods as they could dampen agni. Chew your food thoroughly and allow adequate time for meals without rushing. Consuming meals at regular intervals helps maintain digestive rhythm — don’t skip meals or eat late at night, as it interferes with agni. Hydration is crucial: sip warm water throughout the day, but avoid drinking large amounts during meals that can dilute agni.
Since buttermilk doesn’t suit you currently, try kanji or fermented rice water (adding a pinch of salt or cumin) as these are gentle on the stomach and help in digestion. Regular physical activity, such as walking or yoga, can enhance digestion by improving circulation and reducing stress, which further influences digestion. Begin a gentle morning walk of 20-30 minutes daily.
If these issues persist or worsen, seeking guidance from a health professional is advisable as personalized treatment may be necessary. Remember, digestion can be very personal and may require a tailored approach to address its complexities.
Addressing digestive issues starts with understanding your body’s balance and identifying the imbalances in the doshas, primarily vata and pitta in your case. It sounds like your digestive fire, or agni, is weak, causing issues like gas, impaired digestion, and irregular bowel movements.
Continue with Chitrakadi Vati, as it seems to be helping you digest better. However, since it only offers temporary relief, consider a longer-term plan. First, try introducing warm, cooked foods that are easy on your digestive system. Khichdi, a light preparation of rice and mung beans, can be soothing. Incorporating spices like cumin, ginger, and ajwain can also enhance digestion. Sipping on ginger tea throughout the day may help stimulate agni as well.
It’s essential to establish a regular meal timing. Eating meals at the same time daily can regulate your body’s rhythm. Avoid cold and raw foods, alcohol, caffeine, and processed items as they can aggravate vata and further weaken your digestion.
Abhyanga, or self-massage with warm sesame oil, followed by a warm shower, can help calm vata and improve bowel movements. Triphala churna, taken at night, can assist with regular stools – begin with a small dose and adjust as needed.
Given buttermilk currently doesn’t suit you, detoxifying the digestive tract might be necessary before reintroducing dairy. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a Siddha-Ayurvedic physician or healthcare provider to rule out underlying conditions.
