at what age shilajit should be taken - #38545

Sebastian

I am curious about shilajit because my son is turning 12 soon and I keep hearing all these great things about it. Like, I'm wondering at what age shilajit should be taken? I read that it can boost stamina and overall health but I'm not sure if it’s suitable for young teens. Last year, he started feeling really sluggish, and we thought it might be due to growing pains or maybe just a lack of nutrition since he's such a picky eater. Since then, we tried to get him to eat healthier, but you know how kids can be. Lately, he’s complained about tiredness even after proper sleep, which is frustrating for both of us. I came across shilajit in my online research, and I'm excited about the potential benefits! But still, I don’t want to give it to him if it's not recommended for kids. At what age shilajit should be taken? If he can start having it now, should I take it too? I feel like I could use that extra energy boost as well! Just trying to figure out the safest way to go about this. Hope to hear back soon!

Shilajit is a natural substance used in Ayurveda for centuries, known for its rejuvenating properties. Regarding age, shilajit is generally recommended for adults rather than young children or teens. It’s traditionally used to enhance vitality and energy, boost the immune system, and promote overall well-being, but its potent nature isn’t typically suited for growing bodies of children or early teens without specific medical advice.

At age 12, your son is still in a significant phase of growth and development, where the balance of nutrients, and other factors like sleep, physical activity, and mental health are crucial. His sluggish feeling might actually benefit more from a comprehensive dietary approach than from introduction of supplements like shilajit. Focusing on balanced nutrition, ensuring he gets enough macronutrients and micronutrients, and possibly consulting with a nutritionist could be beneficial.

If you’ve tried improving his diet, consider engaging him in physical activities he enjoys, as regular exercise can naturally increase energy levels. Sometimes, kids need encouragement to try new foods, and involved cooking can help increase their interest in variety. You could include foods rich in iron and Vitamin B12, which are vital to energy levels in his meals.

As for adults, their bodies are more stable and they can tolerate stronger supplements like shilajit more easily. Ensure you buy it from a reputable source, start with a small amount, and observe how your body responds. For its energizing benefits, take it in the morning on an empty stomach with warm water or milk.

Ultimately, before introducing any new supplement, especially to a child, it is best to consult with a healthcare professional who is knowledgeable about both modern medicine and Ayurveda. They can offer tailored advice considering your son’s specific health needs and lifestyle.

Shilajit, while highly valued in Siddha-Ayurvedic and other traditional systems for its rejuvenating properties, isn’t typically recommended for children, especially those younger than 16. It’s important because their bodies are still developing, and there’s insufficient research on its effects on growing children. For adults, particularly those looking for an energy boost, shilajit can be beneficial when used with the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

For your son, focusing on diet and lifestyle adjustments might be more suitable. Addressing his sluggishness starts with understanding his dosha type and imbalance. If he tends to be more Vata dominant, encouraging a routine that incorporates warming, grounding foods alongside proper hydration can help balance his energies.

Ensuring he has regular meal times, adequate water intake, and a varied diet rich in fruits, vegetables, protein, and healthy fats will support his energy levels. Encouraging short, daily outdoor activities may improve his mood and energy too.

If you are considering shilajit for yourself, ensure you’re purchasing it from a reputable source and consult with a healthcare professional to ensure it’s suitable for your constitution and health needs. It’s also vital to monitor how your body responds to it over time. Balancing Agni and optimizing digestion can further support energy and wellness, promoting a holistic state of health.
