how to make hing paste for gas in babies - #40715

Lily

I am really struggling with my baby’s gas issues lately! She’s been super fussy, especially after feeding, and I've heard so much about how hing can help with that. I’ve seen a bunch of recipes online about how to make hing paste for gas in babies but honestly, they all seem a bit complicated, and I’m not quite sure what to follow. I mean, do I really need to mix it with something specific? How much hing is safe for her age? I really wanna make it right since I've read that it's supposed to be effective. Sometimes, I think I’m overthinking it tho. But last night was kinda tough. She was crying a lot and I could tell she was uncomfortable. Gave her a tummy rub, but I feel like I need to do more. Do you guys think making hing paste for gas would actually help? And like, is there a simple way to do it, or do I need all these fancy ingredients? I just wanna ease her discomfort without overdoing anything, ya know? Would love any tips or a straightforward recipe on how to make hing paste for gas in babies if anyone's done it successfully! Thanks so much!!

To make a hing paste for your baby’s gas issues, start by understanding that hing, or asafoetida, is traditionally used to help improve digestion and reduce bloating due to its carminative properties. It’s often used externally for babies to avoid potential internal sensitivities. Here’s a simple method you can try, which is safe and effective for your baby:

You’ll need a pinch of hing (just a very small amount, to avoid any irritation), about a half teaspoon of warm water, and optionally, a small drop of coconut oil. First, take a tiny pinch of hing—just enough to coat the tip of a small spoon. Dissolve it in a half teaspoon of warm water, mixing until you have a smooth paste. If you wish to add coconut oil, it helps soothe the skin and makes application easier.

Once the paste is prepared, gently apply it on your baby’s navel area. Do this by using your fingertips to massage it in a circular motion around the belly button. It’s important to only apply it externally; do not ingest or apply it directly on the navel opening. Lizten to your baby’s cues; if at any moment her skin looks irritated or she seems uncomfortable, gently wipe it off.

This application can be done after a feed when your baby is calm and not experiencing any distress. You can try applying this once a day, after a warm bath can be particularly soothing. Remember to keep the application light and gentle to protect the baby’s delicate skin.

Also, ensure that your child is in a comfortable position during and after feeding to minimize air ingestion, which can contribute to gas issues. Burping her properly post-feeding sessions will also help.

This approach is meant to complement other soothing methods; if your baby’s discomfort persists, seeking guidance from a pediatrician to rule out other potential digestive issues is recommended.
