It seems like your son might be experiencing some reaction to cold exposure after bathing. In Ayurveda, individuals have varying constitutions, and children often have Kapha dominance. When balanced, Kapha is essential for growth and development, but excess Kapha can lead to cold and congestion. To address this, it’s important to ensure that your son’s post-bathing routine doesn’t aggravate his Kapha.

Firstly, consider the water temperature when giving him a bath—lukewarm water is best for his constitution. Cold water can exacerbate Kapha and lead to respiratory issues. After the bath, promptly dry his body and ensure he stays warm. Use a towel to gently pat him dry instead of rubbing, as this can help retain some natural warmth. Also, make sure the bathing area is warm and free from drafts, as sudden exposure to cold air can be detrimental.

In addition to this practical approach, you might want to include a gentle Abhyanga (oil massage) before bathing. Use warm sesame oil to gently massage his body; this can balance Vata and Kapha and improve circulation, which may help bolster his immunity. Allow the oil to soak for at least 15-20 minutes before bath.

Diet also plays a huge role in managing Kapha. Include warm and cooked foods such as vegetable soups and khichdi, flavoured with mild spices like ginger, turmeric, and cumin. Ayurvedic texts often recommend avoiding excessive dairy products as they can increase mucus. Let’s also work on his digestive fire (Agni) - a simple herbal decoction with a bit of ginger or a small piece of black pepper boiled in water can be given (in very low amounts to suit a child’s tolerance).

Another simple home remedy involves infusing a few Eucalyptus leaves in hot water and allowing your child to inhale the steam, which can help clear nasal passages—ensure he is seated safely during steam inhalation.

However, because children are particularly sensitive, if symptoms persist, worsen or are accompanied by high fever or breathing difficulties, it’s important to consult with a pediatrician for a thorough evaluation. These measures can support his system, but professional assessment is crucial for ongoing issues.
