Gluten sensitivity could be impacting your ability to absorb nutrients effectively, even though you consume an excellent vegetarian diet. In Ayurveda, this condition relates to Agni (digestive fire) and could be linked to a Pitta dosha imbalance, contributing to both your anemia and heavy menstrual bleeding. Here are some steps you can follow:
1. Dietary Adjustments: Eliminate all gluten-containing foods from your diet. Focus on naturally gluten-free grains like rice, quinoa, and millet. Incorporate more cooked vegetables, as they are easier to digest and can help enhance nutrient absorption. Favor foods that are soothing for Pitta, like cucumbers, cilantro, and coconut water.
2. Herbal Support: Consider incorporating herbs like Shatavari and Ashwagandha into your routine. Shatavari is known for its ability to balance female hormones and nourish the reproductive system, while Ashwagandha can help strengthen overall vitality. You might take them as a powdered mix, 1 tsp of each with warm milk, once or twice daily.
3. Iron absorption aids: To enhance iron absorption, consume food rich in vitamin C (like amla or citrus fruits) alongside your iron-rich foods. It is also helpful to avoid tea and coffee around mealtimes as they can hinder iron absorption.
4. Rasayana Therapy: Use rejuvenating treatments that strengthen the dhatus (tissues) including rakta dhatu (blood). Chyawanprash, a well-known Rasayana, can be taken daily with warm water or milk for its nourishing properties.
5. Yoga and Breathwork: Light exercises and Pranayama like Anulom Vilom can improve circulation and relax the mind, promoting overall balance. These may help in managing Pitta aggravation and promoting a calmer menstrual cycle.
6. Regular Ayurvedic Consultation: Since you’ve been on hormonal pills without improvement, consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner regularly will help adjust treatments according to your changing needs.
Immediate medical intervention is necessary if menstrual bleeding becomes excessively heavy or if anemia symptoms worsen. Don’t delay consulting with a conventional healthcare provider in these cases to ensure comprehensive care.
