can you take ashwagandha and shilajit together - #42161

Hunter

I am trying to figure out if I can take ashwagandha and shilajit together. I've been dealing with a ton of stress lately, like work pressure and family stuff that's really gotten to me. A friend recommended ashwagandha as a good way to kinda calm my mind, and I've been reading all about its benefits. But then I came across shilajit too, and some articles say it can boost energy levels, which sounds super helpful because I feel wiped out all the time. I found out a bit about both, but like, can you take ashwagandha and shilajit together? I’m worried about any possible side effects, especially since I don't wanna end up feeling even more jittery or something. I mean, I know they both have lots of benefits, but is there a magic combo or should I take them separately maybe? Oh, and when I checked with my doc, he didn’t really give me a clear answer. He just said to do research, which is what brought me here! Would love to hear if anyone has tried this combo or has more insight. I’m really hoping to find the right balance so I can feel more like myself again. Thanks for any help!!!

Doctors' responses

Yes, you can take ashwagandha and shilajit together, and they can actually complement each other quite well. In Ayurveda, ashwagandha is revered for its adaptogenic properties, which means it can help your body manage stress more effectively, calming the mind, and in turn aiding in mental clarity. It works on the nervous system and has a soothing effect, which is beneficial for reducing stress and anxiety. On the other hand, shilajit is a rasayana or rejuvenative and is known for enhancing strength and stamina, promoting physical vigor and energy.

Combining these two herbs can indeed create a synergistic effect. Ashwagandha helps modulate the stress response, while shilajit works on boosting energy and combating fatigue - which seems to align well with your symptoms of feeling worn out and overwhelmed. However, it’s crucial to use them judiciously. You should consider your prakriti and any underlying doshic imbalance you might have.

To introduce these herbs into your routine, start with low doses to observe how your body responds. Ashwagandha can be taken in powder form, typically 500 mg to 1g per day, with warm milk or water, preferably at night for its calming effects. Shilajit, on the other hand, is often available in resin or capsule form. A recommended dose can range from 300 to 500 mg per day. It’s best taken in the morning to help energize your day.

Ensure you consume them after meals to aid in digestion and absorption, and always check for any potential allergies. Since they both affect the body’s energy dynamics, monitor your response closely. If there are any unusual symptoms like palpitations, changes in appetite or digestion, stop usage immediately and consult a healthcare professional.

Consider supporting your regimen with lifestyle changes. Practices like yoga or meditation can enhance the herbs’ effects by further balancing the mind and body. Drinking warm water and eating a balanced diet tailored to your dosha type can also contribute to maintaining your overall health. Still, if any adverse effects arise or if you have existing medical conditions, consult your healthcare provider to ensure there aren’t interactions with other medications you’re taking.
