When dealing with persistent, localized fat such as under your upper arms, Ayurveda suggests a balanced approach, combining dietary modifications, lifestyle changes, and targeted treatments. Since you’ve already tried treatments in Durban, it might be beneficial to look at this from a fresh angle.

Firstly, consider examining any imbalances in your doshas. Excess Kapha dosha can often result in stubborn fat accumulation. You might benefit from incorporating more Kapha-pacifying foods. These include lighter grains like quinoa, barley, and millet. Opt for fresh fruits and vegetables, especially ones that are bitter, pungent, or astringent like pomegranates, apples, cabbage, and spinach. Be cautious to avoid heavy, oily, and fried foods, as well as cold drinks and sugary items.

To enhance digestion and metabolism, focus on improving your agni, or digestive fire. Drinking warm water throughout the day, particularly in the morning, can kickstart your metabolism. A pinch of ginger or a squeeze of lemon added to water can be quite effective. Aim to eat your largest meal at midday when your digestion is strongest, avoiding late-night, heavy meals.

To directly target the localized fat, consider abhyanga (massage) with warm sesame oil, which can help mobilize fat. Massaging the upper arms in a circular motion may assist in breaking down fat tissue. Dry brushing with a natural bristle brush before the massage could further stimulate the lymphatic system and improve circulation. Practice this routine daily in the morning.

Exercise plays a pivotal role, so incorporating activities like brisk walking, swimming or even yoga, focusing on poses that engage the arms (such as downward dog or plank), can aid in toning the arm muscles. Regular physical activity will help reduce fat and improve muscle tone.

Lastly, consider consulting an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner, ensuring they review your entire health history and current lifestyle. Panchakarma, a more intense form of detoxification treatment, could be explored as a possibility for more sustained results, but should be done under professional guidance.

The accumulation of fat in the upper arms often reflects a Kapha imbalance, which typically involves an excess of earth and water elements leading to heaviness and sluggishness in the body. A focused approach can help address this.

To start, consider adjusting your daily diet and routine. Favor foods that are light, warm, and dry, minimizing heavy, cold, and oily dishes. Incorporate more spicy and bitter flavors to stimulate your digestive fire, or agni. Try including ginger tea in your daily routine to help boost metabolism and manage Kapha.

Daily physical activity is essential too. Incorporate exercises like brisk walking or yoga, focusing on postures such as Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) to invigorate the body and balance the kapha dosha. Aim for at least 30 minutes daily to help mobilize the fat deposits.

Specific Ayurvedic herbs can also aid in this process. Consider using guggulu, a resin known for its properties to balance Kapha and manage body fat. You might take it as a supplement, typically under the guidance of a practitioner familiar with your health context.

Abhyanga, a self-massage technique using warm sesame oil, can further support fat reduction. Perform it in the morning before a shower; the massage enhances circulation and assists in breaking down fat accumulations.

However, since you’ve been dealing with this for a long time, and the treatments haven’t been effective, consulting with an Ayurvedic doctor locally could provide additional insights and more personalized suggestions, especially as they’ve assessments available that account for individual constitutions and imbalances. If the treatment doesn’t improve the condition, exploring other medical opinions may also be a reasonable step.
