Doctors' responses

In Ayurveda, managing and reducing hirsutism due to PCOS involves understanding the underlying imbalances in doshas, particularly those related to Kapha and Vata. The primary goal is to address the root cause while managing symptoms like unwanted hair growth. A comprehensive approach, focusing on diet, lifestyle, and natural remedies, can aid in this.

First step is balancing your doshas with dietary modifcations. Include more warming and cleansing foods that help balance Kapha. Favor light, dry, and warm foods, such as barley, millets, and leafy greens. Avoid dairy, fried, and sugary foods which can exacerbate Kapha. Spices like turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon can enhance agni, your digestive fire, supporting hormone balance.

Lifestyle changes are important. Regular exercise like brisk walking, yoga, or cycling helps balance Kapha and Vata doshas. Yoga postures such as Bharadvajasana and Dhanurasana can help regulate the hormonal imbalances.

Certain Ayurvedic remedies can also aid in managing excess hair growth. Try using Kachnar Guggulu, an Ayurvedic formulation known to balance hormones. Take this under the advice of a qualified Ayurveda practitioner, as personal constitution and health status must guide the dosage.

Turmeric paste application on the skin can help in slowly reducing hair growth, though this is not a quick fix; it’s an ongoing process. Mix turmeric with chickpea flour, apply it to the affected areas, let it dry, then rub it off gently.

Addressing insulin resistance is crucial; incorporating fenugreek seeds soaked overnight and consumed on an empty stomach may help regulate insulin levels, but consult your doctor before significant dietary changes.

Permanent hair reduction may not be entirely achievable through Ayurveda alone, as it seeks to manage rather than completely eliminate. Ongoing systemic treatment and lifestyle adjustments are essential. Always consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
