Hlo,

👉 Navel oil application (Nabhi chikitsa) is only supportive, not curative, and should never replace hepatology follow-up or medicines.

Ayurvedic understanding (brief) Liver cirrhosis = Yakrit dushti with Pitta–Rakta involvement and Vata disturbance due to chronic pathology. ✨✨ After TIPS, the aim is: Keep Pitta calm Support Agni without overheating

Prevent Vata aggravation (very important post-procedure)

Best oils for navel application in this condition ✅ 1. Ksheerabala Taila (Preferred) Why best Balances Vata + Pitta Nourishes tissues Safe in chronic liver conditions Gentle, cooling, strengthening Dose & method 4–5 drops in the navel Once daily at bedtime Gentle clockwise massage for 1–2 minutes Continue daily for 3–6 months

✅ 2. Brahmi Taila (Good alternative) Benefits Cooling for Pitta Supports liver–brain axis (important post-TIPS) Helps circulation and mental calmness Dose 3–4 drops in navel Night time 5 days/week

⚠️ 3. Coconut oil (only if nothing else available) Cooling, safe But therapeutically mild Can continue temporarily, but not ideal long-term for cirrhosis ❌ Oils to AVOID ❌ Mustard oil ❌ Sesame oil ❌ Castor oil ❌ Essential oils (peppermint, eucalyptus, etc.)

These can increase Pitta or Vata, worsen portal pressure indirectly, or irritate the gut–liver axis. Important supportive

Ayurvedic add-ons (optional but helpful) 🌿 Internal support (ONLY if hepatologist allows) (Mention to doctor before starting) - Guduchi Satva – 500 mg once daily (morning, empty stomach) - Phalatrikadi Kwath – 15 ml + 15 ml warm water, once daily after lunch (Stop if loose stools or weakness)

Diet & lifestyle reminders (very important post-TIPS) Avoid: Alcohol (strict) Fermented foods Excess sour, spicy, fried foods Prefer: Warm, freshly cooked meals Lauki, tori, pumpkin, rice, moong dal Do not massage abdomen deeply Avoid constipation (very important for portal pressure)

Red flags – STOP and consult doctor if: Abdominal distension New swelling of legs Confusion, sleep inversion Yellowing of eyes Black stools or vomiting blood

Practical Guidance (for someone with cirrhosis post-TIPS, stable and symptom-free) - Gentle oils are preferred → Cow ghee or coconut oil remain safest for daily use. - Occasional detoxifying oils → Castor oil can be used once or twice weekly, but not daily. - Avoid strong or heating oils → Mustard oil or unprocessed sesame oil may aggravate Pitta and are not ideal for liver conditions. - Quantity → Just 2–3 drops in the navel at bedtime is sufficient. - Consistency → Regular gentle practice is more beneficial than strong interventions

🌼 Stepwise Routine (Ayurveda-informed) - Warm the oil slightly (lukewarm, not hot). - Apply 2–3 drops into the navel at night. - Massage gently around the navel in circular motions. - Observe digestion, sleep, and energy over 1–2 weeks. - Adjust: If any discomfort, revert to cow ghee or coconut oil only.

Note: It will not be helpful in curing liver cirrhosis

Hello Thanks for sharing all those details so clearly. It’s really good to hear that your loved one is doing well—sleeping, eating, and active—even after dealing with something serious like portal vein thrombosis and a TIPS procedure. But dont worry we are here to help you out😊

YOUR CONCERN – Someone with liver cirrhosis (1–3 years) – Who had portal vein thrombosis – And already had a TIPS procedure – Right now, they’re feeling good: sleeping well, good appetite, normal routine. – They’re using coconut oil on their navel and want to know what the best oil is.

Warming oil on the navel is a traditional thing that can help, but it won’t cure liver cirrhosis.

* It can help with: gentle nourishment, balancing body energies, and easing digestion. * It CANNOT fix: cirrhosis, high blood pressure in the liver, or blood clots. * It should NEVER get in the way of regular doctor visits or prescribed meds.

Since a TIPS procedure was done, we need to be extra careful and only use really mild, safe oils.

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING

This condition involves liver issues, blood imbalances, and mostly heat in the body with some air imbalance. So, any oil you pick should be:

* Cooling * Gentle * Not too stimulating * Safe to use for a long time

The best and safest oils for the navel:

1. Cow Ghee (My top pick!) It calms body heat, gently supports the liver, and nourishes without adding extra heat. It’s safe, even for cirrhosis and after a TIPS procedure.

3–5 drops in the navel, once a day before bed. Rub gently in circles around the navel.

2. Coconut Oil (You’re already using it – it’s fine)

It’s cooling and calms body heat. Safe for liver issues. You can keep using it if it works for them. Just use 3–4 drops, not too much.

3. Ksheerabala Taila (Only if there’s no belly discomfort) – Helps with air imbalance and can soothe the stomach. – Only use if there’s no bloating, heaviness, or slow digestion. – Just 2–3 drops, 2–3 times a week.

❌Oils to ABSOLUTELY AVOID:

Please do NOT use:

* Castor oil * Mustard oil * Sesame oil * Any warming oils or oils meant for detox. * Any oil that says it will clean the liver or remove toxins.

These could actually increase pressure in the liver or upset digestion.

HOW TO PUT IT ON (the right way):

– Apply oil at night. – Use just 3–5 drops. – Rub gently in circles. – Don’t put heat on the belly. – Don’t use if they have diarrhea, fever, a belly infection, or sudden belly pain.

– Navel oil is only for support. – Cow ghee is the best and safest choice. – Coconut oil is okay. – Keep seeing the liver doctor regularly.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

IN A CASE OF LIVER CIRRHOSIS AFTER PORTAL VEIN THROMBOSIS AND TIPS PROCEDURE THE BODY IS ALREADY IN A SENSITIVE AND COMPENSATED STATE SO ANY EXTERNAL THERAPY MUST BE VERY GENTLE AND SUPPORTIVE NOT AGGRESSIVE

FOR NAVEL APPLICATION THE SAFEST AND MOST SUITABLE OIL IS PURE COLD PRESSED CASTOR OIL APPLIED IN VERY SMALL QUANTITY TWO TO THREE DROPS ONLY AT NIGHT CASTOR OIL HELPS SOOTHE THE ABDOMINAL ORGANS SUPPORT LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE AND REDUCE INTERNAL DRYNESS WITHOUT STIMULATING PRESSURE OR HEAT

ANOTHER OPTION IF CASTOR DOES NOT SUIT IS PURE COW GHEE TWO TO THREE DROPS AT NIGHT THIS IS VERY SAFE NOURISHING AND SUPPORTS TISSUE HEALING AND NERVOUS SYSTEM CALMNESS

AVOID MUSTARD OIL CAMPHOR OIL ESSENTIAL OILS OR ANY STRONG HEATING OILS IN NAVEL AS THEY CAN INCREASE INTERNAL HEAT AND DISCOMFORT IN LIVER CONDITIONS

APPLY OIL GENTLY WITHOUT PRESSURE DO NOT MASSAGE DEEPLY KEEP THE AREA WARM AFTER APPLICATION

SINCE THE PATIENT IS ACTIVE WITH GOOD SLEEP AND DIET THIS PRACTICE CAN BE CONTINUED TWO TO THREE TIMES A WEEK ONLY AND STOP IF ANY DISCOMFORT BLOATING OR PAIN IS FELT

IMPORTANTLY NAVEL OILING IS ONLY A SUPPORTIVE PRACTICE IT DOES NOT REPLACE MEDICAL FOLLOW UP REQUIRED AFTER TIPS PROCEDURE REGULAR MONITORING WITH THE TREATING DOCTOR SHOULD ALWAYS CONTINUE
