Managing Blood Pressure and Medication Side Effects - #48395

Client_ca9c6d

For BP treatment : I am male 39 years, had been drinking alcohol (2 beers 4 days in a week). I had been noticing that BP is rising 130/90, 130/95, 138/100, 140/107 for last 3-4 years. For normal well being, I started taking triphala 2 tab every morning empty stomach for last 4 months & continuing, took ashwagandha 2 tab night for 3 months (stooped) and Arjuna for last 1 month (1 tab in the morning and 1 tab in the night) continuing.. For BP control started Sarpgandha dhan vati since 6th Jan (1 tab in the morning and 1 tab in the night). Measured BP on 18th January and found that BP is now 125/85. As drug side effect I noticed some disorientation and then reduced Sarpgandha dhan vati since 18th Jan. Also note that I have reduced alcohol to now 2 beers per week. Pls suggest if Sarpgandha has caused this disorientation? Shall I continue taking it 1 tab in the night for how many weeks? Or other medication?

How severe is the disorientation you are experiencing?:

- Mild, just occasional dizziness

Have you made any other lifestyle changes besides reducing alcohol?:

- No other changes

How often do you monitor your blood pressure?:

- Every few days

Doctors' responses

🧠 Has Sarpagandha caused disorientation? ✅ YES – very likely Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina) contains reserpine-like alkaloids, which: Lower BP by reducing sympathetic tone Can cause: Dizziness Mild disorientation Excess sedation Low mood (if higher dose or long duration) 👉 Your symptoms appeared after BP dropped and improved after dose reduction → this strongly suggests BP dipped faster than your body adapted. ❓ Should you continue Sarpagandha? 🔴 Do NOT continue full dose (1 tab morning + night) ✅ Best option for you 1 tablet at NIGHT ONLY, because: Night dosing reduces daytime dizziness Helps nocturnal BP control Lower risk of mental side effects ⏳ For how long should you take it? ✔️ Short-term only Continue 1 tab at night for 3–4 weeks Then re-evaluate BP Goal: BP ≤ 125–130 / ≤ 85 ⚠️ Long-term daily Sarpagandha is NOT advised in young patients unless unavoidable. 🌿 Better long-term BP strategy for YOU You are 39, motivated, and BP is already improving—this is good. 1️⃣ Continue (SAFE & BENEFICIAL) Arjuna: 1 tab morning + night Triphala: Continue (helps metabolism & vessels) 2️⃣ STOP (good decision already) Ashwagandha ❌ (can raise BP in some people) 3️⃣ Replace Sarpagandha with gentler options (after 3–4 weeks) 🌿 Option A (preferred) Mukta Vati 1 tab night Much gentler, safer for long term No mental side effects 🌿 Option B Arjuna + Punarnava combination Supports heart + vessels Mild BP reduction 🍺 Alcohol & BP (important truth) Even 2 beers can: Raise diastolic BP Reduce medicine effectiveness 👉 Ideal goal (for 3 months): NO alcohol Then reassess BP—many people normalize without meds. 🧘 Lifestyle (small changes, big impact) You don’t need drastic changes—just these: Walk 30–40 min/day Salt < 1 tsp/day Sleep before 11 pm Avoid late-night screens 📊 BP monitoring advice Check BP twice a week Morning (before tea) + evening Sit quietly 5 minutes before measuring 🚨 When to stop Sarpagandha immediately If you notice: Persistent dizziness Low mood Confusion BP < 110/70
