Symptoms suggest an acute throat/upper respiratory infection. Green mucus, fever, and painful swallowing may indicate a bacterial or viral infection. Take • Sitopaladi Churna 3 g + 1 tsp honey, 3 times daily. • Tribhuvan Kirti Rasa – 1 tablet twice daily after food. • Warm salt-water gargles 3–4 times daily. • Continue warm fluids, ginger tea, and steam inhalation. Seek medical evaluation promptly if fever persists beyond 3 days, swallowing becomes very difficult, breathing is affected, or symptoms worsen.
What to do for a sore throat with fever and green mucus in an adult? - #56599
I have a slight fever and a sore throat. It started of sore and I went to sleep. When I woke up it was very painful and like swollen and very difficult to swallow. I had some honey and warm peppermint tea amd it has subsided since. Since the next morning, I don't really want to eat anything besides "sick soup" (chicken broth). There is mucus in my throat which I believe is why my throat is sore. There is also some green mucus. I have nebuliser a few times and steamed too, and have taken fresh "cathedral bells" alcho plant juice, along with constantly sipping ginger tea. I also have a tension headache since the 2nd day, and when I sleep ot gets worse. I don't know if the sleeping position is affecting this. I have done some acupressure points for this.

According to Ayurveda, your symptoms of sore throat, mild fever, painful swallowing, green mucus, fatigue, low appetite, headache, and disturbed sleep suggest an acute Kapha-Vata aggravation with Ama (toxins from impaired digestion) affecting the throat and upper respiratory tract. The green mucus indicates that the body is actively clearing accumulated Kapha and inflammatory material. Ayurvedic Understanding Kapha aggravation → mucus, throat congestion, heaviness, low appetite. Vata aggravation → throat pain, headache, disturbed sleep, dryness and irritation. Ama formation → fever, fatigue, coated tongue, loss of appetite, feeling unwell. Since the symptoms have been present for less than a week, the focus should be on supporting Agni (digestive fire), liquefying Kapha, and soothing the throat. Dietary Recommendations Prefer Warm chicken broth or light vegetable soups. Warm water throughout the day. Ginger, tulsi (holy basil), black pepper, and cinnamon tea in moderation. Light, freshly cooked meals when hunger returns. Stewed apples or cooked fruits rather than raw fruits. Avoid Cold drinks and ice water. Yogurt, cheese, and excess dairy. Fried and oily foods. Refined sugar and sweets. Heavy meals and overeating. Home Remedies 1. Warm Salt Water Gargles Gargle 3–4 times daily with warm water and a pinch of salt to reduce throat inflammation. 2. Honey for Throat Relief If suitable for you: 1 teaspoon honey mixed with a pinch of turmeric 2–3 times daily. Avoid adding honey to very hot liquids. 3. Ginger-Tulsi Tea Continue ginger tea, and if available add tulsi leaves. This can help reduce Kapha and support throat comfort. 4. Steam Inhalation Steam once or twice daily may help loosen mucus. Avoid excessive steaming if it causes irritation or dryness. For Headache The headache may be related to: Fever Sinus congestion Dehydration Poor sleep Ensure: Adequate fluid intake Rest Gentle steam inhalation if sinus congestion is present Sleeping with the head slightly elevated may help reduce post-nasal mucus drainage and throat irritation during the night. Rest and Recovery Your body is signaling the need for rest: Sleep as much as possible. Avoid strenuous exercise. Eat only when genuine hunger is present. Continue sipping warm fluids.
••Ayurvedic Assessment (Samprapti) Your presentation points to an acute Kapha-Vata predominant disorder with underlying Pitta involvement (indicated by the fever and acute painful swelling): ••Kanthashalooka / Galayu (Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis): The initial soreness that progressed to severe pain, swelling, and Krichra-grahana (difficulty swallowing) indicates a rapid accumulation of Ama (toxins) mixed with Kapha and Pitta in the throat. ••Green Mucus: The transition of mucus to a green color indicates Paka (suppuration/inflammation), a classic sign of an active infection (Agantuja invading Nija body channels) where Pitta has combined with stagnant Kapha. ••Aruchi (Anorexia): Your exclusive desire for chicken broth (“sick soup”) is your body’s natural Agni (digestive fire) signaling that it cannot handle heavy foods. This is a classic Amadosha response to fever (Jwara). ••Shiroroga (Tension Headache): The headache that worsens during sleep or lying down suggests a Vata-Kapha obstruction in the cranial channels (Shrotas). When you lie flat, Kapha naturally increases in the upper body, further restricting the flow of Vata, leading to increased pressure and pain. 2. Refined Ayurvedic Management Protocol While your current remedies are good, we need to balance them so they do not inadvertently aggravate Pitta (inflammation) while trying to pacify Kapha (mucus). Kantha Chikitsa (Throat Care) ••Kavala (Gargling) - Crucial for the Green Mucus: Discontinue pure peppermint if it feels too drying or sharp. Instead, take warm water and add 1/2 teaspoon of Haldi (Turmeric) and 1/2 teaspoon of Saindhava Lavana (Rock Salt). Alternatively, use a decoction of Triphala or ••Yashtimadhu (Licorice). This directly acts on the Paka (inflammation), cuts through the sticky green Kapha, and heals the mucosal lining. ••Pratisarana (Local Application): Mix a pinch of Turmeric with a teaspoon of Honey and slowly lick it (Lehana). Let it coat the throat before swallowing. Ahar Chikitisa (Dietary Correction) ••Deepana & Pachana: Your choice of chicken broth is actually very therapeutic (Mamsa Rasa is excellent for Vata and building immunity), but ensure it is light and heavily spiced with Jeera (Cumin), Black Pepper (Maricha), and Ginger (Shunthi) to stimulate your Agni and digest the Ama. •Avoid dairy, heavy fats, and refined sugar entirely right now, as they will instantly increase the sticky mucus in your throat. Shiras & Nidra (Headache & Sleep Position) ••Bed Elevation: Because the headache worsens when you sleep, elevate your head with 2–3 pillows (a 30 to 45-degree angle). This prevents Kapha and fluid congestion from pooling in your sinuses and throat overnight, keeping Vata moving downward (Anulomana). ••Lepa (External Paste): Apply a warm paste of Nutmeg (Jaiphal) mixed with a little water or milk across your forehead before sleeping to soothe the tension headache.
