Black marks on the skin can arise from various reasons such as hyperpigmentation, acne scars, or certain skin conditions. An Ayurvedic approach focuses on understanding the root cause, which is crucial for addressing the symptoms effectively. These marks might be indicative of dosha imbalance, often an excess of Pitta or Kapha. Here’s what you could consider:

Firstly, assess your diet and lifestyle, since they have a prominent impact on your skin health. Avoid excessive spicy, oily and fermented foods which can aggravate Pitta. Instead, incorporate cooling foods, like cucumber, melon and coconut water, which can pacify Pitta. Since you have already been eating carrots and papayas, which are beneficial due to their natural antioxidants, continue with those - they won’t harm, but make sure not to rely on them solely.

Adopting certain external measures could assist as well. A gentle herbal exfoliation - mix equal parts of chickpea flour (besan) with turmeric and a little bit of water to form a paste. Apply this on your back weekly, let it dry, then rinse it off. Turmeric may help lighten pigmentation over time.

Considering Ayurvedic oils, Kumkumadi Tailam can be genuinely beneficial. Made from saffron and various herbs, it might help lighten marks with regular application. Warm a few drops in palms and gently massage on the marks before sleeping.

A practice of dry brushing increases circulation and Prana to the skin, supporting cell regeneration. Brush gently in circular motion before shower, noting if your skin is over-sensitive, you might skip this.

Ensure you’re staying hydrated – it’s fundamental. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day.

If marks persist or worsen, given they’ve been long standing, I’d suggest consulting with a dermatologist or an Ayurvedic practitioner in person, especially if they cause any irritation or changes.

Keep observing and consider practicing patience, as natural remedies often take time to show noticeable results.
