Perioral Dermatitis - #21984

Regina
$3.51

I've been dealing with a rash for 6 weeks and was recently diagnosed with perioral dermatitis. I've been prescribed creams and was curious on the continued use of my products while waiting for my skin to clear. Products: Geranium Rose Hydrating Toner, Coconut Rose Softening Cleanser, Youth Spring, Manjish Glow Elixir

Thank you for sharing your diagnosis and current skin care routine. Perioral dermatitis is a sensitive inflammatory condition, and from an Ayurvedic perspective, it often reflects an imbalance in Pitta dosha, sometimes aggravated by Ama (toxins) or harsh external agents.

While your prescribed treatment is important, it’s equally essential to ensure your skincare products are not aggravating the condition further.

Let’s look at the products you mentioned: 1. Geranium Rose Hydrating Toner – Rose and geranium are generally soothing and Pitta-pacifying, but if the toner contains alcohol or essential oils in high concentrations, it could irritate already inflamed skin. I recommend doing a patch test or temporarily pausing use until your skin is calmer. 2. Coconut Rose Softening Cleanser – Coconut and rose are cooling and nourishing, which is beneficial in Pitta-type conditions. However, if your cleanser is heavily fragranced or exfoliating, it might be best to use a milder or even plain raw milk cleanser temporarily. 3. Youth Spring – I’d need more details about this product’s ingredients. If it contains actives (like retinoids or acids), they may worsen inflammation. It may be best to discontinue for now. 4. Manjish Glow Elixir – Manjistha is excellent for skin purification and calming Pitta, but depending on the carrier oil and your skin’s current sensitivity, it may feel too rich or irritating. You might wait to reintroduce it once the acute phase settles.

General Ayurvedic Suggestions: • Cleanse gently using raw milk or a sandalwood-manjistha-infused herbal water. • Avoid hot, spicy foods, and focus on a Pitta-pacifying diet (cooling, hydrating, and lightly spiced). • Consider internal detoxification if the condition persists (under guidance).

1. Manjishtadi kashayam 15 ml+ 45 ml lukewarm water at morning before food.

2. Vajrakam kashayam 15 ml + 45 ml lukewarm water at evening before food.

3. Moolakasavam 20 ml twice daily after food.

4. Krimighna vati 1-1-1 after food for 1 month.

5. Nalpamaradi kera tailam for external application on affected area.

6. Eladi kera tailam for external application - regular use - it will improve the skin tone and your skin condition.

In some patients, rash will resolve completely after discontinuation of offending agent such as topical steroids and skin care products. Although the rash is completely cured by some weeks of treatment, it might return if you stop the treatment. So regular use of some oils may benefit you.

Limit your sun exposure. Always use sunscreen . Limit spicy and salty foods. Avoid using soap until the rash reduces. Instead you can use eladi choornam with some lukewarm water to rinse your face.

Hey regina. This is concern for skin, dermatitis is itchi , elaborate the symptoms or share pictures of the skin. If you have got the products for the same skin issue ,firstly do a patch test on hand. Then use I think youth spring has a acidic content so stop that for now Manjishtha can be take in tablet or decoction form for more best results. If you need some home remedies- 1.Dab a thin layer of raw (unpasteurized) honey over the rash. Leave for –15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.

2.Apply green tea water after cooling down with cotton swab over the affected area.

3.Apply a small amount of plain, unsweetened yogurt to the rash. Let sit for 10 minutes. 4. Aloe Vera Gel (Pure) Use fresh aloe vera from the plant or 100% pure aloe gel. Apply a thin layer and leave it on.

Perioral dermatitis can be quite troublesome and while waiting for the rash to clear, care with the products you’re using can be beneficial. With Ayurveda, we look at such conditions as an imbalance often linked to Pitta dosha, which tends to cause inflammation and skin issues.

Starting with your Coconut Rose Softening Cleanser, this generally is mild and soothing, especially if it’s hydrating. However, if there are any harsh or synthetic compounds in them, you might want to cut down and see how your skin responds.

The Geranium Rose Hydrating Toner could be beneficial due to its natural properties and mild astringency, but it’s best to be cautious, particularly if your skin is sensitive at the moment. A gentle pat might suffice instead of rubbing. Consider testing it on a small area first.

Your use of Youth Spring—if it is a moisturizing product—can be useful as long as it’s not too oily or occlusive. When products are rich or greasy, they can exacerbate the condition by clogging pores. Light application would be advised.

Manjish Glow Elixir, often used in Ayurveda for its skin-enhancing benefits, contains manjistha, which is traditionally known for its anti-inflammatory and skin-clearing properties. However, with perioral dermatitis, ensure you aren’t applying anything too heavy or potentially irritating.

Continue monitoring your skin’s response to these products. Sometimes it’s best to pare down your routine to just cleansing and hydrating with very gentle, simple products. Cool compresses can also be soothing. Be vigilant if any worsening occurs, discussing promptly with your healthcare provider.

Stay away from steroid creams unless prescribed. Perioral dermatitis is tricky and steroids can actually exacerbate it over time. If your condition is severe or not improving, follow up with your dermatologist to discuss further management.
