I am dealing with some serious hair issues lately, like my scalp feels really oily, and my strands are all lifeless and dull. I read about multani mitti, or Fuller's Earth, and how it’s supposed to work wonders for hair. But honestly, I'm confused about how to use multani mitti for hair properly. Like, do I mix it with water or something else? I saw a few recipes online, but some include yogurt and others say just plain water. I tried one mix and it left my hair feeling all stiff and weird, not the silky feel I was hoping for! 😩 A friend told me it helped her, but I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong. Also, I've heard about the amazing cleansing properties and I really want to get rid of all that oil buildup but don’t want to overdo it. How often can I use multani mitti for hair without damaging it? And should I do a patch test or is that an overkill? I don’t want to have any surprises. If anyone has tips on how to use multani mitti for hair, please share your experiences or recipes that actually work!!!

Multani mitti is known for its ability to absorb oil and cleanse impurities from the scalp, which makes it particularly good for those dealing with oily scalp issues. But yes, if not used properly, it can leave your hair feeling stiff or dry. Let’s get into how you can use it effectively for your hair concerns.

First things first, since you mentioned your scalp is oily, mixing multani mitti with certain ingredients can balance the oiliness without stripping your hair of essential moisture. Instead of plain water, try mixing it with aloe vera gel, which has soothing properties and helps in moisturizing. You might want to try the following method: Take about 3-4 tablespoons of multani mitti, mix it with 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, and add a little water to achieve a smooth paste. If you’re not a fan of aloe vera or don’t have it in hand, yogurt is also a good alternative as it offers nourishment and reduces oiliness.

This mix should look like enough to apply on your scalp and hair, but apply it mainly on scalp to combat the oil. Leave it on for about 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Don’t let it dry completely because that might be contributing to the stiff feeling you experienced. Make sure to condition your hair afterward, as this will help in maintaining softness.

In terms of frequency, using it once or twice a week should be sufficient. Overuse can lead your hair being too dry, since multani mitti is quite powerful in absorbing oils.

And about the patch test, I would say it’s a smart thing to do even if it seems redundant, especially if you’re trying something new. Applying a small amount on the inside of your elbow and waiting 24 hours will give you a good idea if there are any adverse reactions.
