I am struggling with my hair care routine lately! My scalp has been super itchy and I think I might've been using the wrong products. I always read about how important it is to know how to use hair cleanser properly, but I feel like I'm missing something. Like, do I really need to wet my hair completely before applying it? I often just massage it into my scalp without a second thought. And what about rinsing? I usually just rinse quickly and move on to conditioner, but I've heard that thorough rinsing is important too? Last week, I tried a new hair cleanser that a friend recommended, and now my hair feels kinda dry too. Could that be because I didn’t use it right? I've got really thick hair, and sometimes it feels like I need a gallon of product just to cover it. I wonder how to use hair cleanser in a way that would actually help my scalp and not just mask the issues. Any tips would be really helpful! I'm just feeling frustrated and want healthy hair again. This ensures the product spreads evenly and lathers well, which helps in effectively cleansing your hair and scalp. When your hair is fully wetted, it opens up the pores on your scalp, making it easier for the cleanser to lift away dirt, oil, and build-up.

Now about application – gently massage the cleanser into your scalp using your fingertips, not your nails, to avoid irritating your scalp. It’s not just about washing the hair strands; the focus should be on the scalp, where oil and dirt accumulate. Given your thick hair, it might seem tempting to use a lot of product, but sometimes less is more. Use just enough to create a nice lather.

Rinsing thoroughly is crucial. Any leftover product can lead to build-up, which might cause itching and leave it feeling dry and dull. Spend a bit more time than you usually do, until you can no longer feel any slippery product residue when you run your fingers through your hair.

Now, concerning the dryness, it could be the new cleanser is either too harsh or not suitable for your hair type. You might want to consider one that is sulfate-free, as sulfates can be quite stripping. Ayruveda recommends herbs like Shikakai or Amla, which gently cleanse without drying out hair or irritating the scalp. Ensure you are drinking plenty of water, eating a balanced diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and B-complexes, and practicing stress-reducing activities like yoga or meditation to maintain equilibrium of your doshas, especially if you suspect vata imbalance—which can lead to dryness.
