Hello Nithya ji, I truly understand your concern. Heavy and prolonged bleeding every month can be draining physically, mentally, and emotionally. But don’t worry we are here to help you out😊

✅ Why Heavy Bleeding Happens

Menorrhagia (excessive menstrual bleeding)= Your complaint of heavy flow lasting 5 or more days is medically termed menorrhagia.

Possible causes in your case:

👉Doctors suspect endometriosis, which means the inner lining of the uterus grows outside and causes pain + heavy bleeding.

👉Hormonal imbalance is also common at your age (37 years) and can worsen the bleeding.

Since you also have diabetes, the body’s metabolism and hormonal balance are already under stress, which can aggravate menstrual issues.

✅ Medicine You’re Taking

Tranexamic acid: This helps by reducing breakdown of blood clots, so bleeding is less. However, it only controls symptoms during the period and does not address the root cause.

Ashokarishtam: A classical Ayurvedic uterine tonic It helps by strengthening uterine muscles, regulating hormonal activity, and calming aggravated pitta, which usually causes excessive bleeding.

✅AYURVEDIC MEDIACTION

1. Ashokarishtam – Continue as it supports the uterus and helps in reducing bleeding over time.

2. Praval Pishti 1 pinch with warm. Water – Cooling medicine, excellent for pitta control and heavy flow.

3 Lodhra churna 1tsp – Can be taken with honey; it specifically strengthens endometrium and reduces excess bleeding.

✅DIET AND LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION

✅ Include:

Iron-rich foods: dates, raisins, pomegranate, spinach, black sesame, jaggery in small amounts.Cooling fruits: apple, grapes, guava. Cow’s ghee in small quantity daily – helps balance pitta and vata.

❌ Avoid:

Spicy, oily, fried, sour foods. Excess tea, coffee, and packaged foods – they aggravate pittaand vata. Too much jaggery, sugar, or sweets – important since you are diabetic.

✅Lifestyle Tips:

Adequate sleep – late nights aggravate hormonal imbalance. Gentle yoga & pranayama: Supta Baddha Konasana, Balasana, and Shavasana relax pelvic muscles.

Stress management – meditation and breathing practices help regulate hormones naturally.

Ashokarishta helps, but usually needs to be combined with other medicines for proper control of menorrhagia. Endometriosis requires deeper management with medicines + panchakarma therapies, not just symptomatic control.

With proper guidance, many women experience better cycle regulation, less bleeding, improved energy, and relief from pelvic pain within a few months.

Wishing you a good health😊

Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

Hey Heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) linked to suspected endometriosis can be deeply exhausting—physically and emotionally. You’re already using Tranexamic acid (to reduce bleeding) and Ashokarishtam, which is a good Ayurvedic choice for Rakta dushti and uterine toning.

Does Ashokarishta Help in Menorrhagia? Yes, Ashokarishta is one of the most trusted Ayurvedic formulations for: - Regulating menstrual flow - Reducing uterine inflammation - Balancing Vata-Pitta in the reproductive system - Supporting endometrial health It contains Ashoka bark, Dhataki, Haritaki, and other herbs that act as Stambhana (anti-bleeding), Shoolahara (pain-relieving), and Rakta-prasadana (blood purifying).

You should go with some additions: 1.Kanchnar guggulu 2 tab twice daily with water after meals 2.Pushyanug churna 1/2 tsp with honey or rice water (manda) twice daily after meals 3.Patrangasava 15 ml with 15 ml water twice daily after meals

Diet & Lifestyle Tips - Include: Warm, cooked meals, sesame oil, ghee, beetroot, pomegranate, and iron-rich foods - Avoid: Cold/raw foods, sour/spicy items, caffeine, and late nights - Practice: Gentle yoga (Supta Baddha Konasana, Baddha Konasana, Ustrasana, Setu bandhasana, Viparita Karani), meditation, and journaling to reduce cortisol and pelvic congestion

Panchakarma Therapies for Endometriosis ( at a nearby Panchkarma Center)- Ayurvedic doctors often recommend: - Kshara Basti / Ksheera Basti: Medicated enemas to pacify Vata and reduce pelvic inflammation - Uttara Basti: Vaginal oil therapy (under supervision) to cleanse and nourish the uterus

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you’re going through heavy bleeding during periods, especially when it is prolonged and accompanied with pain is often assigned that the inner lining of the uterus is not in a balanced way. In your case, doctors have mentioned the possibility of endometriosis, it means that the tissue with normally the uterus is growing in places where it should not leading to more bleeding, pain, and sometimes even weakness. 1. Does Ashokarishta clear Menorrhagia? Ashokarishta is a well-known Ayurvedic formulation traditionally used to address various gynecological issues, including menorrhagia (abnormal heavy or prolonged periods), which it often refers to as Rakta Pradar.

. Alternate Medicines/Supplements for Heavy Bleeding

Since you are already on Tranexamic acid (an antifibrinolytic, a proven medical treatment for heavy bleeding) and Ashokarishta, any additional medication or supplement should only be considered after consultation with and approval from your healthcare provider to ensure safety and prevent interactions.

3. Solution for Endometriosis Causing Heavy Bleeding

Endometriosis is a complex, chronic condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. When this tissue bleeds during your period, it can cause heavy bleeding (menorrhagia), pain, and inflammation. There is no single “cure” for endometriosis, but there are very effective treatments to manage symptoms, including heavy bleeding and pain.

Treatment options focus on:

A. Medical Management (often the first line of defense): Hormonal Therapy: These treatments aim to suppress the growth of endometrial tissue and reduce or stop menstruation, thereby reducing bleeding and pain. Options include:

Combined Hormonal Contraceptives (Pill, Patch, Ring): Taking these continuously can stop periods altogether.

Progestin Therapy (Pill, Injection, or Hormonal IUD): Progestin-only options are very effective at reducing bleeding and often stopping periods. The Hormonal IUD (e.g., Mirena) is often considered one of the most effective medical treatments for reducing heavy bleeding.

GnRH Agonists and Antagonists: These medications induce a temporary, reversible menopause-like state to stop the menstrual cycle and suppress endometriosis.

Tranexamic Acid: As you are already taking, this medication helps the blood clot, directly reducing the amount of blood loss during your period. It does not treat endometriosis itself, but manages the symptom of heavy bleeding.

NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs): Such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen, are used to manage pain and may also reduce blood loss.

B. Surgical Management: Laparoscopy (Keyhole Surgery): This is the most common surgical procedure. It involves removing or destroying the visible patches of endometriosis tissue and scar tissue. This can significantly reduce pain and bleeding, but symptoms may return over time.

Hysterectomy: In severe cases where other treatments have failed and a woman does not plan to have children, removing the uterus (with or without the ovaries) may be considered.

In summary, since your doctors suspect endometriosis:

Tranexamic Acid is a specific, evidence-based treatment for the heavy bleeding.

Ashokarishta is a traditional herbal remedy that may be complementary.

The overall solution for the heavy bleeding caused by endometriosis often involves hormonal medication (like a hormonal IUD or continuous birth control) or laparoscopic surgery to target the root cause.

The heavy bleeding during periods, often referred to as menorrhagia, can indeed be distressing. Ashokarishta is a classical Ayurvedic formulation often used to manage such issues. It’s designed to balance the hormones due to its action on the uterine system, as well as to strengthen the tissues involved. While it’s beneficial, its effects might take some time and can vary from person to person. So it’s important to keep an eye on how your body responds to it.

Considering you mentioned that doctors suspect endometriosis, it’s crucial to have a thorough medical evaluation to understand the extent of the condition. Ayurveda views endometriosis as an imbalance of the Apana Vata, a sub-type of Vata dosha, which is responsible for the downward flow of bodily processes. To address this, apart from Ashokarishta, you might consider the use of other traditional remedies.

Lodhara (Symplocos racemosa) is another herb known for its ability to manage heavy bleeding and support uterine health. It’s often taken as a powder (churna) mixed with warm water, around 1-2 grams twice daily. Additionally, Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) can help in reducing inflammation, which might ease the symptoms associated with endometriosis.

Diet also plays a key role in managing Vata disorders. Opt for a diet that’s warm, moderately spiced, and rich in easily digestible foods like rice, moong dal, and steamed veggies. Avoid cold, raw, and excessively spicy foods that can aggravate Vata dosha. Ginger tea with a little honey can assist in balancing Vata and help in soothing pain during menstruation.

Engaging in regular gentle yoga, particularly poses that support the lower abdomen, and pelvic region, can be beneficial, but always consult a qualified instructor. For endometriosis, it’s essential always to seek professional medical advice alongside Ayurvedic remedies to ensure comprehensive treatment. Avoid delaying critical care if necessary.

HELLO NITHYA,

You are experiencing heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) lasting up to 5 days, which is more than what is usually considered normal. Normally, menstrual bleeding lasts 3-5 days with moderate flow. heavy bleeding can lead to weakness, fatigue, and anemia if not managed.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

1) ENDOMETRIOSIS (uterine lining grows outside the uterus): causes heavy, prolonged, and painful periods

2) HORMONAL IMBALANCE : irregularities in estrogen and progesterone can increase bleeding

3) OTHER STRUCTURAL ISSUES= fibroids or polyps in the uterus

AYURVEDIC UNDERSTANDING -This is usually called asrigdara or rakta pradoshaja vyadhi -it happens when Pitta dosha (heat, metabolism) and rakta dhatu (blood tissue) are imbalanced. -symptoms of pita imbalance in periods include bright red bleeding, burning sensation, fatigue, irritability

Heavy menstrual bleeding, or menorrhagia, can be quite distressing, and if endometriosis is suspected, it’s important to closely monitor your symptoms. Ashokarishtam is commonly used in Ayurveda for its uterine tonic properties and may help in managing symptoms associated with heavy bleeding and hormonal imbalance. It works by balancing the doshas, particularly the pitta dosha, which is often aggravated in cases of heavy menstruation.

Alongside Ashokarishtam, consider incorporating some lifestyle and dietary practices that align with Ayurvedic principles. Foods that pacify pitta, such as those sweet, bitter, and astringent in taste, should be favored. This means including more fruits like melons, pears, and pomegranates, and vegetables like broccoli and cucumbers. You should avoid spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine as they can aggravate symptoms.

Herbal formulations like Chandraprabha Vati, and Pradarantak Ras can also be beneficial. These formulations help manage heavy bleeding by strengthening the endometrium and reducing inflammation. It’s crucial to have these recommended by a qualified practitioner familiar with your complete health status—so, don’t self-prescribe.

If heavy bleeding continues, it’s vital to seek more immediate attention to rule out serious underlying conditions. For endometriosis, specific treatments like Panchakarma therapies can be helpful to manage the root cause. Techniques such as Basti (medicated enema) can support in alleviating endometriosis symptoms by detoxifying the colon and balancing Vata dosha.

Consult with a gynecologist or Ayurvedic specialist regularly to ensure the issue is addressed holistically and safely within both conventional and Siddha-Ayurvedic frameworks. Likewise, any severe pain or complications should be addressed urgently to prevent further health concerns.
