can we put gulab jal in eyes - #40453

I am dealing with this nagging issue and honestly, I’m kinda confused. Recently, I’ve been hearing a lot about gulab jal and its benefits, especially for skin hydration and soothing effects. Then a friend of mine mentioned that it could help with tired eyes too? Like can we put gulab jal in eyes??? She said it’s like a natural thing and often used in beauty routines, but I’m hesitant. Here’s the deal — I work long hours on screens, and my eyes are always feeling dry and strained. I’ve tried eye drops, but they don’t really do much. I’m tempted to try gulab jal since it sounds really soothing, plus I’ve read some stories where people say it made their eyes feel fresh and love it! But then another friend said something about it being potentially irritating for some??? Ugh, I just don’t know. I mean, if we can put gulab jal in eyes, then how do I go about it? Like how much is safe, and should I be mixing it with something else? Or should I even just stick to regular eye drops instead? I really wanna give something natural a shot, but feeling super unsure right now. Any advice would be amazing!

So, you’re wondering whether applying gulab jal (rose water) to your eyes is a good idea, especially given those long hours in front of a screen. Let’s dig into this with some Ayurvedic insights. Gulab jal is indeed well-known in Ayurveda for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, which can be great for calming irritated skin. But regarding direct application to the eyes, a bit of caution is needed.

In Ayurveda, the eyes, or ‘netra,’ are considered sensitive and require utmost care, especially for someone experiencing eye strain from screen time. While some people do use rose water for the eyes, it’s essential to ensure it’s 100% pure rose water without any additives or preservatives. Even natural products can cause irritation to sensitive areas like the eyes.

If you decide to try it, make sure to do a patch test first. Take a small amount of the rose water and place it on the inner part of your arm. Wait for 24 hours and check for any signs of irritation. If your skin is fine with it, you can proceed with a more cautious approach to your eyes. Use a sterile dropper to add just one or two drops into each eye. It’s best done once or twice daily, especially in the evening when you can rest your eyes afterwards.

Monitor closely how your eyes respond. Any tingling or irritation means you should flush your eyes with clean water and discontinue use. Importantly, don’t mix the rose water with anything else unless under guidance of a practitioner.

In case rose water doesn’t agree with your eyes, consider other Ayurvedic remedies for tired eyes, such as using cotton pads soaked in fresh cucumber juice or using simple, unscented castor oil on your eyelids at night, which can be nourishing.

However, due to your symptoms, it might help to get a comprehensive vision check to rule out underlying issues, such as computer vision syndrome. Resting your eyes when possible and following the 20-20-20 rule also supports eye health — taking a break every 20 mins to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

In conclusion, while gulab jal can be beneficial, proceed with care, and listen to your body’s response. If there’s any doubt or discomfort, consulting with a healthcare provider is always the best course of action.

Yes, you can apply gulab jal (rose water) to the eyes, but it’s essential to exercise caution and consider a few factors, particularly given your situation. Rose water is commonly used in traditional practices for its cooling and soothing effects. However, the quality and purity of the gulab jal is fundamentally important here. It must be 100% pure, distilled, without any artificial additives or preservatives, which could potentially irritate your eyes.

If you decide to proceed, use a dropper to place one or two drops of pure rose water in each eye. This can be done once a day, at night, to help soothe and refresh the eyes. Make sure to wash your hands before handling the dropper to avoid contamination. Observe how your eyes react. If you experience any redness or irritation, discontinue use immediately.

It’s important to consider your prakriti (body constitution) and monitor how your body responds. Your symptoms may be related to an imbalance of the pitta dosha, especially due to the extended screen time contributing to dryness and strain. Apart from gulab jal, consider regular screen breaks, adequate hydration, and possibly incorporating eye exercises or cooling compresses like cucumber slices or a cloth soaked in chilled chamomile tea.

However, if your eyes remain dry despite these measures, it may be prudent to stick with the eye drops recommended by your healthcare provider, as they are specifically formulated for eye health. If symptoms persist, a consultation with an eye specialist might be necessary to rule out underlying conditions. Safety should be your first priority, so adjust based on how your eyes respond.
