I have extreme dryness in eyes, mouth, skin. I am on thyroid medication since many years and have gained a lot of weight in last 15 years after my hysterectomy. Extremely troubled with dry eyes problem presently

Extreme dryness in eyes, mouth, and skin, particularly when associated with thyroid issues and post-hysterectomy, is consistent with Vata imbalance in Ayurveda. Thyroid medication, weight gain, and surgical history might be contributing to this imbalance. Addressing diet, routine, and lifestyle choices can help relieve dryness.

From a dietary perspective, focus on hydrating and nourishing foods. Include warm oils like ghee or sesame oil in cooking, they help in balancing Vata. Consume meals that are warm, moist, and freshly prepared. Cooked oats with a dash of ghee, or almond milk and dates as sweeteners, is ideal for breakfast. Increase intake of omega-3-rich foods like flaxseeds or fishes, providing essential fatty acids important for skin and eye health. Stay well hydrated, drinking room temperature or warm water throughout the day.

Herbal support is gentle yet very effective here. Triphala, an Ayurvedic blend of three fruits, can be taken a teaspoon at night with warm water to aid digestion and absorption. Ashwagandha can be used as a rejuvenating tonic, supporting thyroid and reducing Vata. Applying castor oil or sesame oil around the eyelids before bed can ease eye dryness, while coconut oil is excellent for skin hydration after bath.

Balancing lifestyle routines are crucial. Incorporate relaxation and stress reduction techniques like yoga or meditation for 20 minutes daily. Favorably, rose water accustomed eye drops can provide natural moisture to the eyes, with regular application. Regular Abhyanga (self-massage with warm sesame oil) before shower enhances skin’s moisture level. Ensure sleep hygiene, aiming for 7-8 hours.

Lastly, work with healthcare professionals to systemic check-ups ensuring no underlying causes remain untreated—ayurvedic interventions should complement not replace necessary medical consultations.
