Doctors' responses

I understand your worry as a parent and your concern is very genuine In children early greying is usually related to pitta imbalance nutritional deficiency stress weak digestion or hereditary tendency When Ayurvedic treatment is started sometimes initially more grey hairs become visible not because the medicine is harming but because dormant hair follicles that were already affected start showing changes together This does not always mean the treatment is wrong but it does mean the approach needs to be very gentle and child specific Powders mixed with ghee and honey and short course of B12 are commonly given but if pitta is high or digestion is sensitive some medicines can aggravate pitta and make greying appear faster so reassessment is very important

Regarding basti it is a very powerful therapy but in a twelve year old child it is not always the first requirement and it is not mandatory for results especially if the condition is mild to moderate Basti is usually advised only when there is strong vata involvement and other methods are not helping and it should never be forced due to cost or fear For now focus should be on correcting diet calming pitta improving digestion ensuring adequate sleep reducing academic or emotional stress and continuing only mild internal medicines under supervision If greying has increased after starting treatment you should immediately inform the treating doctor and ask for modification rather than continuing blindly Early greying in children takes time to stabilise and fast results should not be expected gentle consistent care works better than aggressive therapies

Stop that treatment and follow this below mentioned protocol.

Start with - 1. Swamla Compound (Gold) 1/2 tsp empty stomach daily with lukewarm milk 2. Neelibhringadi Oil for Local application (Gently massage the scalp with 10ml of oil for 4-5 minutes, then keep it for 30 minutes and then wash with soft shampoo) Do this twice a week 3. Nasya with Shadbindu Taila, 2 drops in each nostril in Morning and Evening daily for 3 months. 4. Ashwagandha powder 1/2 tsp in warm milk at night 5. Bhringrajasava 10ml-0-10ml in 20 ml water before food.

Diet take only: Green gram, rice, ghee, coconut, amla, pomegranate, 1 glass diluted amla juice daily. Soaked almonds 4 daily.

Avoid: Spicy, sour, fried food, Tea, coffee, alcohol, Heat styling, chemical dyes.

Lifestyle advice Head massage with fingers 10 min daily. 10 min Sarvangasana yoga pose 5 days weekly. Sleep by 10 PM. Cover head in sun.

Hlo,

Ayurvedic treatment does NOT normally cause hair to turn grey suddenly. What usually happens is one of these:

The greying process was already active internally, and it’s now becoming visible Nutritional deficiency (very common: B12, iron, ferritin, zinc) Strong medicines or wrong dose for age Stress, sleep issues, or genetics

Giving B12 for only 15 days is usually NOT enough. If B12 deficiency is present, children often need at least 6–12 weeks (sometimes longer), guided by blood tests. 👉 If possible, please get: CBC Serum B12 Ferritin (iron stores) TSH (thyroid)

For a 12-year-old child: ❌ Basti is NOT first-line treatment for grey hair ❌ Not necessary for fast results ❌ Not mandatory at all

I would not recommend it.

INTERNAL

- Amalaki Rasayana 👉 250 mg once daily with honey (morning)

- Drakshavaleha 👉 ½ teaspoon once daily after food

Avoid strong formulations like: Rasayanas with metals

🌿 EXTERNAL (very important) Bringraj Taila OR Neelibhringadi Taila Massage scalp 2–3 times per week Wash next morning with mild herbal shampoo

6️⃣ Diet rules Add: Cow’s ghee (1 tsp daily) Dates, black raisins Milk (if tolerated) Almonds (2 soaked daily) Avoid: Junk food Excess spicy / fried food Late nights Excess screen time

7️⃣ What I would strongly suggest now ✅ Stop current medicines temporarily ✅ Get blood tests (especially B12 & ferritin) ✅ Restart only mild age-appropriate treatment ❌ Avoid basti ❌ Avoid aggressive therapies

Hello I get why you’re worried and confused about your daughter. It’s super upsetting to see your kid’s hair turn gray so young, especially when it seems to get worse after treatment. Your worry is totally valid, and I’m glad you asked before doing anything else.

YOUR CONCERN

–She’s 12. –Gray hair since Nov 2023 –Started Ayurveda in Nov 2024 –Greying got faster after treatment –She got powders with ghee and honey, plus tablets and B12. –Someone suggested Basti

What this probably means: – Too much Pitta Dosha (the main cause of early graying) – Her blood isn’t so pure – Weak bones and tissues (hair is linked to bone tissue) – Maybe the first meds were too strong – Or a strong detox made the graying show up faster

In Ayurveda, early graying is called Akala Palitya, and it’s usually because of too much Pitta and weak tissues.

Really Important Point (Stay Calm)

If the graying got worse after treatment, it usually means:

* The medicines were too strong for her * Her body was detoxing without enough good stuff * They used the wrong herbs for her body type

This Doesn’t mean Ayurveda isn’t working, it just means the plan needs tweaking, mostly because she’s only 12.

About Basti (Your main question)

Does she HAVE to do Basti? No way. It’s not compulsory for a kid.

Basti is strong, but: * It’s mostly for grown-ups with long-term Vata problems. * Kids should only do it for serious nerve or tummy issues. * It’s not a must for hair problems. * For sure, she Doesn’t need 7–8 days of Basti for gray hair, * Mostly she Doesn’t need if as the first thing you try, * and not when money is tight.

So, don’t feel like you have to do it. Kids’ hair can be handled without Basti.

What to Do Now?

Step 1 – Stop the meds for now. If the graying got faster:

–Stop those powders/tablets for now. – Let her body chill out and get stable for 2–3 weeks.

A Safe and Easy Plan for Your Daughter

INTERNAL MEDICATION

Amalaki Churna – ½ tsp with honey, once a day. (Great for cooling Pitta and hair color.)

Guduchi Tablet – once a day. (Cleans the blood and boosts immunity.)

EXTERNAL CARE

Weekly oil: –Neelibhringadi Taila –Massage her head 2–3 times a week

Hair wash: – Mild herbal shampoo or reetha-shikakai

Home pack (once a week): Amla powder + curd + coconut oil (20 minutes)

DIET PLAN

INCLUDE

* Amla, pomegranate * Coconut water * Dates, soaked almonds * Ghee (a little) * Green veggies * Only homemade food

AVOID

* Chips, noodles, junk * Chocolates * Cold drinks * Bakery stuff * Too much screen time + late nights

LIFESTYLE Kids today get gray hair early mostly because of:

* Stress * Phone addiction * Not sleeping well * School pressure * Not enough outside time

These hurt Ojas more than anything.

In 3–4 months of doing the right things: * Less new gray hair * Hair will feel better * Her head will be healthier

My Advice (From What I’ve Seen)

For a 12-year-old: * Strong detox * Heavy ghee meds * Expensive Basti * Hard treatments

She doesn’t need Those or somtimes its bad.

She Does Need: * Cooling * Good food * To feel good * Easy herbs * Time

Don’t freak out or blame yourself. You were trying to help, which is normal. Just switch to an easier plan that’s right for a kid.

Her body is still growing. If you take care of her the right way, you can stop the graying from getting worse fast.

Warm Regards Dr. Snehal Vidhate

1.Amalaki Rasayan 1 tsp with warm milk empty stomach in the morning 2.Bhringarajasava 20 ml with 20 ml water twice daily after meals 3.Narsimha rasayan 1 tsp twice daily with warm milk after meals 4.Saptamrita lauha 2 tab twice daily with water after meals 5.Neelibhringadi taila- massage on the scalp twice weekly a night before hairwash

🧘 Lifestyle & Diet Diet: - Favor cooling foods: cucumber, amla, pomegranate, leafy greens. - Avoid excess spicy, fried, junk foods. - Include protein sources: moong dal, milk, nuts (almonds, walnuts).

Routine: - Adequate sleep, stress reduction (yoga, pranayama). - Gentle scalp massage with warm oil.

Supplements: Continue B12 if deficiency was suspected, but also check iron, vitamin D, thyroid.

🌼 About Basti (Medicated Enema) - Basti is considered the prime therapy for Vata disorders and rejuvenation. - For premature greying, basti is sometimes advised as part of Rasayana chikitsa. - However, it is not essential for every case, especially in children. - Good results can often be achieved with oral Rasayana medicines + diet + oil therapies. - If basti is too costly, you can focus on internal Rasayana + external oil massage consistently.

Warm Regards DR. ANJALI SEHRAWAT

I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERN AND THE CONFUSION YOU ARE EXPERIENCING AS A PARENT

IN A TWELVE YEAR OLD CHILD EARLY GREYING OF HAIR IS USUALLY RELATED TO PITTA IMBALANCE NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCIES STRESS OR GENETIC PREDISPOSITION WHEN AYURVEDIC TREATMENT IS INITIATED THE BODY FIRST STARTS INTERNAL CORRECTION AND DURING THIS PHASE HAIR ROOTS THAT WERE ALREADY AFFECTED MAY START SHOWING GREY COLOR MORE CLEARLY THIS CAN GIVE AN IMPRESSION OF SUDDEN INCREASE BUT IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN THAT NEW GREYING IS BEING CAUSED BY THE MEDICINES

GREY HAIR REVERSAL IS A SLOW PROCESS AND VISIBLE IMPROVEMENT IS ASSESSED OVER A PERIOD OF THREE TO SIX MONTHS FIFTEEN DAYS OR ONE MONTH IS TOO SHORT A DURATION TO JUDGE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TREATMENT THE MAIN EARLY INDICATOR OF IMPROVEMENT IS REDUCTION IN THE SPEED OF NEW GREY HAIR FORMATION

VITAMIN B TWELVE SUPPLEMENTATION FOR A SHORT DURATION MAY NOT BE SUFFICIENT IN SUCH CASES AND OFTEN REQUIRES LONGER SUPPORT BASED ON INDIVIDUAL NEED

REGARDING BASTI THERAPY BASTI IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR MANAGING EARLY GREYING IN CHILDREN IT IS GENERALLY RESERVED FOR STRONG VATA DISORDERS OR CHRONIC CONDITIONS AND IS NOT ADVISED SOLELY FOR COSMETIC OR FAST RESULTS ESPECIALLY IN A CHILD IN MOST PEDIATRIC CASES PALITYA CAN BE MANAGED EFFECTIVELY WITH MILD INTERNAL MEDICINES DIETARY CORRECTION AND EXTERNAL HAIR CARE

IF REQUIRED GENTLE AYURVEDIC SUPPORT MAY INCLUDE AMLA CHURNA HALF TEASPOON ONCE DAILY WITH HONEY BHRINGRAJ CHURNA HALF TEASPOON ONCE DAILY WITH GHEE BALA ASHWAGANDHA LEHYAM HALF TEASPOON AT NIGHT NEELIBHRINGADI TAILA OR COCONUT OIL FOR SCALP APPLICATION TWO TO THREE TIMES WEEKLY

A BALANCED DIET ADEQUATE SLEEP AND REDUCTION OF JUNK AND PROCESSED FOODS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR LONG TERM RESULTS

IF THERE IS CONTINUED RAPID GREYING EVEN AFTER TWO TO THREE MONTHS THE MEDICATION MAY REQUIRE ADJUSTMENT RATHER THAN DISCONTINUATION

WITH A PATIENT CONSISTENT AND AGE APPROPRIATE APPROACH THIS CONDITION CAN BE CONTROLLED EFFECTIVELY

HELLO,

Main complaints -premature greying -hair fall

this indicates an imbalance mainly in Pitta and Vata doshas, possibly with weak Rasa dhatu(plasma), Rakta dhatu(blood), and Asthi dhatu(bones, which support hair/nails)

DOSHA INVOLVEMENT

PITTA- governs heat, metabolism , when aggravated, burns melanin->premature greying

VATA- thin, falling hair

KAPHA- nourishment, strength, deficiency-> weak roots, oily hair, lack of luster

TREATMENT SHOULD BE FOCUSED TO -to stop hair fall -reverse/slow premature greying -thicken and volumize hair -repair frizzy hair -rejuvinate scalp and nervous system -correct internal imbalances(vata-pitta) -prevent further damage and relapse

START INTERNALLY WITH

1) KESHYA RASAYANA GHRITA - 1/2 tsp with milk in morning empty stomach for 3-4 months =deep rejuvinator for hair, brain, eyes, balances vata-pitta BRAND= Arya Vaidya sala/ vaidyaratnam

2)LOHA BHASMA + NARIKEL LAVAN -loha bhasma- 125 mg+ nairkela lavana- 250 mg take with honey+ ghee once daily after breakfast for 40 days =powerful rejuvination combo for very early greying, rich in iron, balances pitta

3)CHYAWANPRASHA SPECIAL(high amla content) -1 tsp with warm milk daily morning for 12 months =deep rejuvenation, improves immunity, hair growth, pigmentation (BRAND SUGGESTION= AVP dhanwantharam chyawanprasha or Nagarjuna chyawanprasha(with Swarna bhasma)

4)SWARNA MAKSHIK BHASMA -125 mg with amla juice or honey for 2 months =addressess deep rasa/rakta dhatu problems linked to early greying

5)KESYA KALPA CAPSULES -1 cap twice daily after meals for 3 months =bends of rasayana+ anti greying herbs like prashnaparni, Ashoka, bringaraj

EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS

1) KANJUNNYADI KERA TAILA( AVS KOTTAKKAL BRAND) -warm slightly, apply to scalp and hair leave overnight =powerful Kerala medicated oil, anti greying, dandruff removal, anti fall, scalp rejuvinator

2) KAYYUNYADI TAILA -alternate with above oil thrice/week =used in severe greying and scalp dryness, nourishes hair roots

SHAMPOO SUGGESTIONS

DIVYA KESH KANTI ADVANCED(patanjali)= strong herbal shampoo with anti-greying and anti fall ingredients

TRICHUP HERBAL SHAMPOO(VASU)= with keratin + herbal blend =reduces dandruff

KOTTAKAL NEELIBHRINGADI SHAMPOO= gentle but nourishes follicles deeply

FOR STRESS- take MANAS MITRA VATAKAM(avs or Arya Vaidya pharmacy)- 1 tab at bedtime with warm milk for 1 month =used for hair greying/fall due to mental stress, insomnia

NASYA THERAPY- instill 2 drops of keshya taila in each nostril daily in morning =improve hair and brain health

DIET MODIFICATIONS -include Amla, curry leaves, black sesame seeds- 1 tsp/day -cow ghee 1 tsp/day -pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts -millets ragi, jowar -fresh fruits, leafy greens -moong dal, rice, old wheat

AVOID -spicy, sour fermented foods -oily, junk, packaged foods -tea, coffee, alcohol -excesssive salt or sugar

START YOUR DAY WITH SOAKED RAISINS AND ALMONDS, WARM WATER WITH LEMON AND HONEY

LIFESTYLE AND YOGA -SARVANGASANA= improves scalp blood flow -ADHO MUKHA SVANASANA = enhances nutrients delivery to follicles -SHASHANKASANA= calms stress -PRANAYAM= balances vata and pitta reduces stress

ROUTINE TIPS -sleep early by 10 pm -avoid excessive screen time -oil scalp before sleeping -use wooden comb(avoid plastic)

EXPECTED RESULTS TIMELINE

1 MONTH- Reduction in hairfall, frizz control, reduce dandruff 3 MONTHS- stronger roots, less breakage, new baby hair 6+ MONTHS= slowed greying, better volume and texture

DO FOLLOW CONSISTENTLY

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU
