How to treat back pain, neck pain, and hair loss after cancer treatments in a 36-year-old male? - #52768
Hello namaste Doctor, I'm Ernest , 36 years old male, from Hong Kong. After birth I had to stay hospitalized with more 'lights' for me for a week, and often sick with Tonsillitis, with fever, when I was a few years old. I felt weak and during teenage, at 17 years old I got Hodgkin's Lymphoma and relapse at 19, and I took chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and stem cell transplant. I feel my body is depleted by these treatments. During these 16 years, I tried fasting, yoga, pranayama, Chinese medicine, and now I look into Ayurveda. I have these issues, back pain, neck pain, right hand thumbness until thumb. Recent years I have hair loss, and weak male energy. I am vegetarian for 7 years. What is your advice or anything I can provide for your assessment?

Namaste Ernest. After chemotherapy, radiotherapy and transplant, it is common to feel long-term depletion. Your symptoms of back pain, neck pain, numbness, hair loss and low energy are mainly due to nerve weakness + tissue depletion (vata imbalance). First focus should be on rebuilding strength slowly. Take proper rest and avoid overexertion. Continue yoga but keep it gentle, avoid strain on neck and spine. Do daily oil massage (abhyanga) with warm sesame oil, especially on neck, back and feet, followed by mild hot water bath. For pain and numbness, apply Mahanarayan taila daily on neck and back with gentle massage. Avoid long sitting and maintain proper posture. Include light stretching but no jerky movements. Your diet should be nourishing and strengthening. Include warm, freshly cooked food. Take milk daily if it suits you. Add ghee (1–2 tsp daily), soaked almonds, dates, and good protein sources like moong dal, paneer. Avoid dry, cold, and raw foods as they increase weakness. For digestion, take warm water and avoid overeating. If bloating happens, keep meals simple and regular. Medicines: Ashwagandha churna 5 grams at night with milk. Shatavari churna 5 grams once daily. Brahmi vati 1 tablet twice daily after food. Yograj guggulu 2 tablets twice daily after food. Chyawanprash 1–2 tsp in morning. These will help in improving strength, nerve function, energy and hair health gradually. Hair fall after such treatments takes time to recover. Oiling scalp with coconut oil or bhringraj oil regularly will help. Recovery in your case will be gradual, not immediate. Consistency is important.
