My one side of nose is completely blocked and I am not able to do neti. I get seasonal allergies every year in April May and i take cetrizine for it. I also try to use Haridrakhand and anu tailam sometimes but this year no relief from my blocked nose one side. From last 2 days I am getting heavy breathing. I smell smoke all the time though there is no smoke around me. I am also feeling as if suffocating and difficult breathing.

However, since you are experiencing difficulty breathing, a sensation of suffocation, and smelling smoke when none is present, it is important to seek an evaluation by an ENT specialist , especially if these symptoms are new or worsening. Ayurvedic Recommendations 1. Nasya (Nasal Care) Since the nose is completely blocked, avoid forceful Neti at present. Perform gentle steam inhalation with plain water or a pinch of ajwain once or twice daily. After the blockage starts reducing, use 2 drops of Anu Taila in each nostril in the morning Do not use excessive oil when the nose is heavily congested. 2. Reduce Kapha Accumulation Drink warm water throughout the day. Avoid cold drinks, ice cream, curd, cheese, and refrigerated foods. Reduce exposure to pollen, dust, and strong fragrances. Keep windows closed during high-pollen periods if possible. 3. Herbal Support Haridrakhand can be continued after meals Turmeric with warm water or warm milk at bedtime may help reduce allergic tendencies. Tulsi and ginger herbal tea can help clear respiratory passages and support immunity. 4. Breathing Practices Once the nasal blockage improves: Practice gentle Anulom Vilom Pranayama for 5–10 minutes daily. Avoid strenuous breathing exercises during active congestion. 5. Diet Prefer: Warm, freshly cooked meals Light soups and vegetable preparations Ginger, black pepper, turmeric, and cumin in moderation Avoid: Cold, heavy, oily, and excessively sweet foods Daytime sleeping, which can increase Kapha congestion
••The combination of complete unilateral (one-sided) nasal obstruction, the inability to perform neti, and the sudden onset of heavy breathing, a feeling of suffocation, and a constant phantom smell of smoke (phantosmia) indicates a complex clinical shift that goes beyond a standard case of seasonal allergic rhinitis. •Given the mechanical blockage on one side and your acute breathing difficulties, the absolute first priority is a formal objective clinical assessment. It is strongly recommended to consult an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist or a primary care physician for a Nasal Endoscopy and a Sinus CT scan. ••Pause Anu Tailam: Nasal drops (Nasya) are strictly contraindicated during acute, complete mechanical obstruction (Avarodha) or when severe active congestion is present without a clear passage. Applying oil (Taila) on a completely blocked, heavy Kapha mass will only increase the Utklesha (liquefaction and swelling) of the mucosa, worsening the suffocation. 2. Acute Palliative Measures (Symptom Management) To alleviate the immediate feeling of suffocation safely, focus on dry, warm, and volatile interventions that clear Vata and Kapha without adding fluid volume: ••Pradhamana/Volatile Inhalation: Use dry steam inhalation infused with a few drops of Eucalyptus oil, camphor (Karpura), or mint (Pudina Arka). This acts as a localized Vata-Kapha Hara and Srotoshodhana (channel-clearing) measure, helping to shrink mucosal edema safely. ••Discontinue Cold/Heavy Foods: Strictly avoid Abhishyandi foods (curd, cold water, heavy sweets, bananas) which immediately increase Kapha in the Shiras. Stick to warm water (Ushnodaka) and light, freshly prepared meals. ••Continue Oral Anti-allergics Safely: While oral Haridrakhand is excellent for systemic Pratishyaya (allergies) due to its Katu-Tikta and Rasayana properties, it may not resolve an acute structural block. Continue your Cetirizine as prescribed by your physician to keep systemic histamine levels down while you seek an objective diagnosis.
