What is heparin, and why is it used as a blood thinner? - #14703
I recently heard about heparin, and I was surprised to learn that it’s used to prevent blood clots. I don’t fully understand how it works or why some people need it. What exactly is heparin, and how does it help prevent clotting? Is it only given to people at risk of heart attacks and strokes, or is it also used before surgeries? Also, what makes heparin different from other blood thinners like warfarin? I also want to understand the risks of taking heparin. Does it increase the chance of excessive bleeding, and are there people who shouldn’t take it? Also, are there natural alternatives or Ayurvedic treatments that work similarly to heparin without the side effects? If anyone has been prescribed heparin, what condition was it for, and did you experience any side effects? Did it help prevent complications, or did you need an alternative treatment?
