nephrotic syndrome - #17587

Anonymously

A few months back, my legs started swelling up, mostly around my ankles. At first, I thought it was just because I was sitting too much during work, but then my face also started looking puffy, especially in the mornings. I didn’t think much of it until one day, my urine looked really foamy. That’s when I knew something was wrong. I went to the doctor, and after some tests, they told me I have nephrotic syndrome. I had never even heard of it before. They explained that my kidneys are leaking too much protein, which is causing all the swelling. My cholesterol levels are also high, and they said I might have to take steroids for a long time. I’m really scared about this because I’ve read that steroids have a lot of side effects. I want to know if Ayurveda has treatments for nephrotic syndrome that can actually help heal the kidneys rather than just control the symptoms. Are there specific herbs or remedies that can stop protein loss in urine? I’ve read that certain foods might help with kidney health, but I don’t know what’s best for nephrotic syndrome. Should I avoid dairy, or is it okay in moderation? Also, is there any Ayurvedic detox method that can help cleanse the kidneys naturally? Another thing I’m worried about is fluid retention. My feet and face get swollen by the end of the day, especially if I sit for too long. Does Ayurveda recommend anything to manage this? And what about stress—can that make nephrotic syndrome worse? My sleep has been really disturbed ever since I got diagnosed. If anyone has tried Ayurveda for nephrotic syndrome, did you see any improvement? I don’t want to depend on heavy medications for life, so I really need to know if there’s a natural way to manage this condition. Any advice would help.

Nephrotic syndrome is a serious condition, but Ayurveda offers natural ways to support kidney function and manage symptoms. In Ayurveda, the kidneys are associated with the Vata dosha, and imbalances in this dosha can contribute to fluid retention and protein loss. Herbs like Gokshura, Punarnava, and Ashwagandha can help strengthen kidney function, reduce protein leakage, and support overall fluid balance. For managing fluid retention, Ayurvedic remedies like Triphala and Dandelion root can act as natural diuretics to reduce swelling. In terms of diet, focusing on light, easily digestible foods while avoiding heavy, fatty, or overly salty foods is recommended. Moderate dairy can be fine for some individuals, but it’s best to monitor how your body responds. Stress and poor sleep can exacerbate the condition, so incorporating stress-relief techniques like meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises (Pranayama) is essential for managing both the physical and emotional aspects of nephrotic syndrome. Ayurvedic detox methods, such as Panchakarma, can help cleanse the body, but these should be done under the guidance of an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner. While Ayurveda can offer significant support, it’s important to continue working with your doctor to manage the condition effectively.
