Hello Kamala, Is he having any difficulty breathing, congestion, or a runny nose? How is his appetite and energy level during the day? Does he have a history of respiratory issues, like asthma or allergies, or any other past illnesses? Also, has there been any recent change in his environment, such as exposure to cold weather, dust, or allergens? In Ayurveda, persistent fever and cough can be linked to an imbalance in the Kapha and Vata doshas, often requiring herbs and treatments that balance the respiratory system and boost immunity.

Sounds like a tough few days for your little guy! Based on what you’re telling me, it seems like he has kapha dosha imbalance due to excess cold and phlegm that’s causing the cough. The fever suggests some pitta involvement too, like an internal heat trying to clear out something.
Usually, cough and fever can be managed with simple home remedies and a few lifestyle tweaks. Let’s look at what you can try, keeping in mind to contact your healthcare provider if there’s no improvement.
First, stick with the ginger and honey. It’s great for soothing the throat and reducing the kapha, but be careful not to give too much honey because it’s heavy and can be heating. Just a teaspoon with crushed ginger a couple of times a day. Consider adding a small pinch of turmeric to this mixture as it has mild anti-inflammatory effects.
Tulsi (holy Basil) tea could be really helpful for his cough, clearing the phlegm, while also gentle for fever. Boil some tulsi leaves in water, then strain, and once cool, add a bit of honey. Give him half cup two or three times a day.
Keep that room warm but not too dry; a humidifier can be helpful, but don’t overdo it or else it might aggravate kapha more. Ensure he stays well-hydrated with lukewarm water, soups, and broths – staying away from cold drinks or food.
As far as diet goes, keep it light and warm. Think rice gruel, moong dal soup—easy to digest foods that won’t strain his digestive fire (agni). Avoid dairy, except maybe a little turmeric milk before bed, as it tends to increase mucus production.
If fever persists or worsens, or if he starts showing any signs of distress, don’t hesitate to seek immediate medical attention. Better safe than sorry with kids.
Any time you’re unsure of whether the condition is resolving, especially with young children, always good to check in with your pediatrician again. Hopefully, these suggestions provide some relief along the way!
