Hi Subashni,
Can you tell me if you experience any additional symptoms like heavy bleeding, fatigue, or abdominal discomfort? Also, how is your digestion and stress level?
In Ayurveda, prolonged menstruation can be due to an imbalance in Pitta and Kapha doshas. You can try:
Ashoka – To regulate menstrual flow and balance hormones.
Shatavari – To nourish the reproductive system and balance hormones.
Triphala – To detoxify and support overall reproductive health.
Guduchi – To strengthen the immune system and reduce inflammation.
A Pitta-pacifying diet along with gentle exercise like yoga can also help. Please consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized treatment.
Experiencing prolonged menstrual bleeding as you’re describing can be distressing and challenging to manage, especially when it affects daily life. Ayurveda can offer some supportive remedies to help manage the situation. However, given the severity and persistence, it’s essential to continue working with your healthcare provider to ensure timely conventional medical intervention if neeeded.
In Ayurveda, prolonged menstrual bleeding may relate to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly Pitta, which controls heat and blood flow. The stress you are describing can also be tied to an excess of vata dosha, potentially exacerbating bleeding tendencies. Let’s focus on practical and safe guidance you can follow alongside your current medical treatment.
Firstly, diet plays a crucial role. You may consider adopting a Pitta-pacifying diet incorporating cooling and astringent foods. For example, eating more cucumbers, melons, and pomegranates could be helpful. Avoiding spicy, sour, and excessively hot foods, like chilies and alcohol, can also help in reducing heat in the system.
An Ayurveda formulation like Ashoka (Saraca asoca) can be supportive due to its properties that help balance hormone levels and manage menstrual irregularities. Consuming Ashoka decoction or capsules twice a day is recommended; however, consult a qualified practitioner before starting any new supplement, especially with your medical history.
Incorporating stress-reducing practices like gentle yoga or meditation can assist in balancing Vata dosha, helping to restore a healthy reproductive cycle. Regularly practicing pranayama helps control stress and promote vitality.
Using coconut oil for daily body massage (abhyanga) can help pacify aggravated doshas too. Gentle, circular movements over the abdomen might give additional relief in some cases.
Though these recommendations are supportive, the persistent issue of heavy and/or prolonged bleeding should not be overlooked and requires medical follow-up. If your healthcare provider suggests other steps like hormonal treatment or surgery, consider multiple opinions to best understand the necessity. Ayurveda can be a powerful complementary approach, but it should be integrated carefully with conventional care, especially in serious cases like ongoing heavy bleeding.
