Chronic hives can indeed be a frustrating issue, especially when relief is temporary. Ayurveda approaches this condition by addressing the underlying imbalances in your body's doshas — the life energies Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. It's likely that your hives are tied to a Pitta imbalance, often resulting from factors such as stress, diet, and digestive issues. First things first, try to identify potential triggers for your hives. Common triggers include spicy and oily foods, certain preservatives, artificial food dyes, and even stress. Keeping a food and symptom diary might help in pinpointing what aggravates your condition. To enhance your healing process, you might want to start incorporating herbs known in Ayurveda to support skin health. Neem is excellent for its anti-inflammatory properties—consider taking it as a supplement or applying neem oil on affected areas. Turmeric can also be a good ally; a teaspoon of turmeric powder mixed with warm milk daily can soothe inflammation. Additionally, incorporating cooling practices is beneficial to balance the excess Pitta. Aloe vera gel is soothing when applied directly onto your skin, and sipping on cooling herbal teas like fennel or coriander can help as well. Do pay attention to your diet. Favor foods that are cooling and easily digestible. Include more fruits like watermelons, pears, and pomegranates. Avoid sour, salty, and pungent tastes which can aggravate Pitta dosha, basically limit deep-fried or spicy foods. Stress Management is crucial. Regular practices like meditation or pranayama (breath control exercises) can help you reduce stress levels, and thus, Pitta imbalance. Evenings, spend at least 10-15 minutes focusing on your breath to calm your mind. Remember, patience is key, Ayurveda works by addressing root causes which might take some time. Meanwhile, please continue your consultation with your dermatologist, making sure to discuss any ayurvedic supplements with him to avoid contraindications. If things doesn't improve, consider seeking a comprehensive Ayurvedic evaluation from a specialist who can tailor a treatment plan to your specific needs.
