Less flow in periods in 26 year old female - #24180

Vineeta

I used to have very painful periods few years ago. It used to pain even while breathing so I took allopathy and that reduced the flow eventually.and then after ayurvedic medicine pain is not very severe but flow is very less. It reduced from 4 days to now only 1 day gradually in 2 years and I did ultrasound they said no sign of pcos but my facial hair are increasing also is it normal if hair grow on breast also. Also m 26 but till now my weight don't go above 42-43. So even if I consult doctors they say that as per my weight less flow is possible and also my hb is also 12.8 not that less to have very light flow. Plz advice on this.

It sounds like you’re experiencing a complex web of symptoms, and it’s understandable to feel concerned. Let’s look at this from an Ayurvedic perspective. The key factors here are your menstrual flow, hirsutism (excessive hair growth), and weight.

First, the reduced menstrual flow could be linked to an imbalance in your body’s doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. In Ayurveda, the menstrual cycle is closely tied to Apana Vayu, a sub-dosha of Vata, which controls downward motion and elimination. Imbalance here can lead to irregularities.

Considering the symptoms, the face hair growth and possibly on breasts too, it suggests a hormonal imbalance, which in Ayurveda could involve aggravated Kapha and Vata. With no PCOS diagnosis from the ultrasound, we should focus on balancing your system.

Your weight seems to be on the lower side, and as noted by your doctors, that can contribute to lighter periods, but it’s crucial to ensure your body is well-nourished. We want to support your body to nourish the dhatus (tissues) adequately.

Here’s what you might consider incorporating into your lifestyle:

1. Diet: Focus on a diet that balances Vata and nourishes the body. Include warm, cooked foods, whole grains, sesame seeds, healthy fats like ghee, and sweet, ripe fruits like mangoes and bananas. Avoid cold and dry foods, as they can aggravate Vata.

2. Herbal Support: Ayurvedic herbs like Shatavari, Ashwagandha, and Triphala can help restore balance. Shatavari supports hormonal balance, Ashwagandha helps stress and energy levels, and Triphala aids digestion. Consult with a local Ayurvedic practitioner for proper dosages.

3. Routine: Establish a regular routine to help balance Vata. This means eating at the same times each day, sleeping early, and engaging in gentle, grounding exercises like yoga.

4. Reduce Stress: Stress can aggravate Vata and Pitta, contributing to your symptoms. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation or pranayama daily.

Since you have a persistent concern with weight and menstrual irregularity, however mild, it’s crucial to keep an ongoing check with a healthcare provider. If you notice any sudden or severe changes, don’t hesitate to seek medical attention.
