is eating curd daily good for health - #25232

Julian

I am kinda curious about something. Lately, I've been hearing people talking about how is eating curd daily good for health? A friend of mine swears by it and says it changed her digestion completely. She eats it every morning with her breakfast and, honestly, I’m tempted to try it, but I’m not sure. I mean, I had this awful bloating and my stomach feels all over the place sometimes. Tried all sorts of things, but nothing worked like I hoped. Last week, I started eating curd in my smoothies and on days when I have it, I feel a bit better, but not sure if it's just in my head! I heard that is eating curd daily good for health can even boost immunity and help with skin issues too, which I could really use since I have some stubborn acne lately. 😩 Is it really okay to eat curd every day? Will it help with my bloating, and could I have too much? Anyone tried it long term? What do you think?

Including curd in your daily diet can indeed offer several health benefits, especially from an Ayurvedic perspective. Curd is known to balance the doshas, specifically helping with Vata and Pitta imbalances. It is rich in probiotics, which are live beneficial bacteria that support digestive health. For issues like bloating, consuming curd might actually assist in regulating the digestive system by enhancing the good bacteria in the gut, which can ease such discomfort.

However, like anything else, moderation is key. In Ayurveda, curd is considered heavy on digestion and not ideal for everyone in every situation. For instance, it’s generally beneficial to consume curd during the day due to its heavy and sour nature, which might otherwise aggravate Kapha if eaten at night. To mitigate potential negatives, it can be had with honey or a bit of sugar, which harmonizes with its properties.

If you’re experiencing consistent bloating, it might be worth considering how and when you eat curd. Try having it in the morning, as your friend suggests, or possibly mixed into a midday meal. Pay attention to how your body responds to this change. It could be that your digestive fire, or Agni, needs balancing, and curd might support this process. Long-term users often find improvements in immunity and skin, but it’s essential to observe your own condition attentively.

On the topic of skin and immunity, curd does contain antioxidants and is rich in nutrients which may contribute positively to skin health. You’ve noticed some change with your bloating, which is encouraging, yet keep an eye for any adverse effects. If consuming curd makes you feel heavy or lethargic, consider making adjustments or consulting a professional.

Lastly, balance the use of curd with individual lifestyle needs and any unique health concerns. Some situations may require alternative solutions. If curd seems ineffective, you may want to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for guidance tailored to your specific prakriti and dosha imbalances. Remember, Ayurveda always emphasizes personalized care and steady observation of one’s body responses.
