hello Faiza, I completely understand what you’re feeling right now. ITP can sound scary at first, especially when your daughter has been on steroids for a whole year. And yes long-term use of steroids like eltrombopag can start affecting bones, hormones, immunity, and liver too. So your concern is very valid. Now, let me tell you something reassuring Ayurveda may not replace steroids overnight, but it does have a beautiful way of supporting the body from the root. You know what’s really happening in ITP? Her own body is confusing platelets as a threat and attacking them that’s why counts fall. In Ayurveda, we see this as a Pitta and Rakta imbalance it’s like the blood has too much heat or irritation, and the body's internal calm is disturbed. What we do is cool the blood, strengthen the liver and spleen (where platelets are made and stored), and calm the overactive immune response. And don’t worry this can go side by side with her allopathy. No interference. Slowly, as her system becomes stronger, steroid dosage can usually be reduced under her doctor’s guidance that’s the long-term hope. We’ll give her internal medicines to build her platelets and calm the system, suggest a few diet changes, and guide you step by step. Ayurvedic Treatment Plan (to be continued for 3+ months with platelet monitoring) 1. Internal Medicines Kamdudha Ras (with Mukta) – 1 tab twice daily Giloy Satva – 250 mg with honey twice daily Ashwagandha capsule – 1 capsule at bedtime Punarnavadi Mandur – 1 tab twice daily after meals Draksharishta – 15 ml with equal water after meals 2. Diet Guidelines Avoid: spicy, oily, sour food, junk, pickles, tea/coffee Include: pomegranate, grapes, coconut water, beetroot, boiled drumstick leaves Use cow’s ghee daily — it strengthens immunity Drink water boiled with khus or coriander seeds Daily small portion of khajur (dates) and black raisins soaked overnight 3. Monitoring and Follow-up Keep checking platelet count every 15–30 days Slowly taper steroids only under doctor’s guidance Ayurvedic treatment can continue for 6 months or more to build lasting strength This is a condition that needs slow and steady recovery and Ayurveda offers a supportive, safe, and nourishing way to help her body heal from within and eventually reduce dependence on steroids. If you have any doubts, you can contact me. Take care, regards, dr.Karthika

ITP, or immune thrombocytopenia, can be a challenging condition, especially when it comes to managing platelet counts. While you've mentioned that your daughter is taking eltrombopag and steroids, its understandable to be concerned about the long-term effects. In Ayurveda, the focus would be on supporting the body's natural balance, enhancing immunity and nourishing the blood tissue, known as Rakta Dhatu, which also correlates to beta immune functions and platelet production. Regarding Ayurvedic approach, it typically involves understanding the underlying dosha imbalance. In ITP, Pitta and Vata imbalances often play a significant role. Supporting therapies can include dietary changes, herbal formulations, and lifestyle modifications. For instance, to balance Pitta, reducing spicy, oily, and fried foods might be beneficial, while increasing intake of cooling and hydrating foods such as cucumbers, gourds, and pomegranates. These foods help in calming down the fiery nature of Pitta and promoting healthy blood tissue. Herbal support is also crucial. Herbs like Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) may be useful to help boost immunity and support platelet production. Giloy, often known as Guduchi, has properties that enhance the immune system and balance doshas. But it's essential to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner for precise dosages and combinations that are tailored to her specific dosha and health. Additionally, stress reduction is key, as it can exacerbate Vata and Pitta imbalances. Practices such as Yoga and Pranayama (breathing exercises) can be helpful. Regular, gentle exercise and meditation may support her well-being holistically. Keeping hydrated, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, and avoiding too much screen time will also be beneficial for overall health. Remember, before making any changes to her treatment protocol, it's important to consult both her current healthcare providers and an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner. They can offer guidance based on her individual health profile and the specifics of her condition. Balancing modern medicine with Ayurveda requires careful consideration and collaboration to ensure her safety and well-being.
