How shall I cure insulin resistance? - #25530

Farwa Waheed

I have been facing it for a long time now. At firstIignored it. I was like I might be overthinking. But as the time passed I realised it could be hormonal. And now I finally know that it's insulin resistance. Weight is increasing, dark patches around neck and armpits, tiredness, headaches. I used to skip meals thinking that my weight is due to eating also that I don't really eat alot. It's just 2 meals a day. But skipping meals also didn't gave any satisfying results.

Insulin resistance is a condition that can indeed lead to a collection of symptoms, such as weight gain, darkened skin patches (acanthosis nigricans), fatigue, and headaches, as you've described. Ayurveda provides a perspective that aims to balance the body's doshas and addresses root causes like imbalanced agni or digestive fire. First, skipping meals can actually aggravate insulin resistance, so maintaining regular meal times is key. When meals are skipped, the body's metabolism slows down, which can worsen energy levels and hormone imbalances. Aim for three well-balanced meals a day, where lunch should be the heaviest meal when your agni is strongest. Your diet should include foods that are low on the glycemic index. Opt for whole grains like quinoa or barley over refined flours. Incorporate bitter and astringent tastes, which can help detoxify and regulate your blood sugar levels – consider foods like turmeric, fenugreek seeds, and leafy greens. Up for fresh a plate of salad before meals to help with digestion. Exercise is another crucial part of managing insulin resistance. A routine adapted to your capacity, including daily brisk walking or yoga, can help in improving your body's insulin sensitivity and assist in weight control. If possible, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day. It would also be helpful to focus on stress management, as stress can worsen insulin resistance through the release of certain hormones. Consider practices like meditation or pranayama (breathing exercises) which can calm the mind and balance your doshas. Sleep is equally important; getting around 7-8 hours of good-quality rest will support hormone regulation and maintain energy balance. Consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice. Additionally, an Ayurvedic practitioner might recommend specific herbs like Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) or Amla (Indian gooseberry), however, be cautious and ensure these do not interfere with any prescribed medications. Regular monitoring and professional advice should be your priority.
