can we eat honey and curd together - #25695

Olivia

I am confused about something I recently heard. A friend told me that you can’t mix honey and curd, but I can't remember why. I love having both in my diet. Just the other day, I made this yummy smoothie with honey and curd, and like, it felt delicious! But then I remembered that talk about honey and curd and started to doubt. I know honey is great for energy and curd has those probiotics, right? The thing is, I want to stay healthy and avoid any issues in my stomach. Last week, I had this weird bloating after eating some rich food, and now I'm a bit on edge about what I eat. Some say mixing honey and curd could be harmful in the long run, while others like my grandmom, say it’s fine and she used to do it all the time. Can we eat honey and curd together or nah? I really need clarification coz I love both, and want to keep my digestion happy!

Combining honey and curd can be a bit of a debate in Ayurveda, but it's important to look at it through the lens of your unique digestive system and how these foods affect your balance. In Ayurveda, both honey and curd have their own distinct qualities and energies, which sometimes may not complement each other when combined. Curd is heavy, sour and tends to increase the "Kapha" dosha. It's considered cooling, which is great during warmer months or for those with excess "Pitta" dosha. However, for someone already experiencing bloating or heavy digestion, curd should be consumed in moderation. On the other hand, honey is known for its detoxifying properties and can heat up the body, helps in balancing "Kapha" due to its warming effect and astringent taste. When combined, the heating quality of honey and cooling nature of curd, can create an imbalance in digestion—particularly if consumed in large amounts or if your "Agni" (digestive fire) is weak. But incorporating both with a bit of mindfulness can be beneficial. Experiment with small amounts to see how it affects your digestion. Perhaps, rather than making it a regular mix, consider having curd in the morning with a sprinkle of spices like cumin or ginger to aid digestion, skipping honey. You can then enjoy honey later in the day, maybe with warm water to boost energy without cooling. If you've had bloating, keep an eye on your meals. Consider lighter, easier-to-digest options, including more cooked vegetables and warm soups over cold or rich foods to help strengthen your digestion. Avoiding indigestible food combinations and paying attention to your body's response is key. Listen to your body; eat mindfully and remember that what works for one might not work for another. With the right balance, you can enjoy the benefits of honey and curd while keeping your digestion on track.
