I have the early symptoms of Pancreatitis - #26032

Elizabeth
FREE

Thank you for reading my question. I have the early symptoms of Pancreatitis - low vit B12, anaemia, pain over pancreas and liver feels tender too. Every time I eat food, the food passes straight through and I have loose stools and sometimes diarrhoea. I experience painful swelling of my whole abdomen and nausea. Food does not go down well, but sits in my chest, it feels like. I don't eat junk food or fried foods. I have been going through an intense emotional period of stress which I believe has affected my spleen/pancreas. I am a woman aged 53, perimenopausal and have celiac disease. I have been checked for cholesterol, thyroid function and diabetes and all these are ok. I would be grateful for a list of Ayurvedic herbs and remedies for my situation. Thank you.

Experiencing the symptoms you’re describing can indeed be challenging. Considering your celiac disease and perimenopausal status, an Ayurvedic approach should carefully balance these complexities. While Ayurveda offers supportive remedies, it’s vital to consult a healthcare provider promptly, espcially because pancreatitis can be serious and may require urgent medical intervention.

In Ayurveda, the symptoms you described often relate to an imbalance in Pitta and Vata doshas, affecting the Agni (digestive fire). First, consider incorporating herbs and practices that pacify these doshas and support digestion.

1. Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) is helpful for supporting liver and pancreatic health. It can be taken as a powder, about 1/4 tsp with warm water once daily.

2. Amalaki (Indian gooseberry) is rich in vitamin C and can support digestion while balancing Pitta. Amalaki churna, 1/2 tsp in warm water, taken twice a day, can be beneficial.

3. For your abdominal discomfort and to calm digestion, try ginger tea. Fresh ginger slices boiled in water, taken before meals, can ease nausea and help with food absorption.

4. Licorice (Yashtimadhu) may support mucous membrane health and help with the feeling of heaviness in your chest. A decoction of licorice root can be sipping daily, but use cautiously with high blood pressure.

5. Since your condition includes diarrhea, it may also be helpful to include light and nourishing foods. Khichdi, a preparation with rice and mung dal, can be soothing for digestion.

6. Ensure your eating routine align with your body’s digestive rhythms: eat smaller, more frequent meals, and allow for sufficient rest and gentle physical activity to relieve stress.

7. Emotional stress reduction is pivotal. Practices such as yoga, Pranayama, and meditation aid in balancing Vata and calming the mind.

Remember, the redressal through Ayurveda takes time, and while managing symptoms naturally, monitoring and professional medical guidance should not be overlooked for effective recovery.

Considering the symptoms you’ve described, it’s essential to first emphasize that pancreatitis could be a serious condition necessitating immediate attention from a healthcare professional. Please seek emergency medical care promptly to rule out any urgent complications. Meanwhile, we can explore supportive measures from a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective to help manage and balance your current condition.

In Siddha Ayurveda, your symptoms indicate an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, affecting your agni (digestive fire) and potentially impacting the liver and pancreas. This is coupled with vata disturbances due to your stressful period. Managing these imbalances will support your body’s natural healing processes alongside any conventional medical treatment.

1. Diet Adjustments: Focus on a diet that pacifies Pitta while also being gentle enough for your digestive system. Incorporate cooling and soothing foods such as cooked apples, pears, and ghee. Avoid spicy, sour, and acidic foods, as well as nightshades like tomatoes and bell peppers.

2. Herbs and Formulations: - Amla (Emblica officinalis): A rich source of vitamin C, amla can be included to help pacify Pitta and support digestion. Consuming in powdered form or as amla juice could be beneficial. - Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia): This herb supports the liver and boosts immunity. You can take it as a tablet, following the dosage recommendations on the package. - Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra): It can soothe the gastrointestinal tract and help balance Pitta. It can be consumed as a decoction, but caution is advised if you have high blood pressure.

3. Digestive Aids: - Sip on warm ginger tea to aid the digestive fire without increasing Pitta. - Use hingvashtak churna before or after meals as a digestive aid to help manage bloating and discomfort.

4. Mindfulness and Stress-Reduction: Given the role stress may be playing, try incorporating daily pranayama (breathing exercises) like Nadi Shodhana to calm the mind and balance Vata.

5. Observe Your Agni: Eat in a peaceful environment, chew thoroughly and pay attention to portion sizes to avoid burdening your digestive system.

Ensure these steps complement the medical guidance you receive for pancreatitis. While Siddha-Ayurvedic remedies can offer supportive care, they should never delay or replace essential, immediate medical interventions.

Hi Elizabeth, totally understood the situation you are going through.
For this along with medicines you need some dietary changes and lifestyle modifications.

Start, 1.Guluchyadi kwatham tab 2-0-2 before food 2.Arogyavardhini vati 1-0-1after food 3.Thriphala tab 2-0-2 after food

Weekly once Virechana(Purgation) with AVIPATHY CHURNAM (1packet/10gm) with ½glass hot water in empty stomach followed by light diet only - this is to cleanse your body and to balance your PITA dosa

*You can also do Kashaya vasthi(medicated enema) from nearby Ayurvedic treatment center/14days once

*Do’s 3-4litres of water /day More focus on fruits and vegetables Include Sprouted grains Walking - daily 30min to 1hour Practice yoga and meditation regularly

*Don’ts Tea /coffee Oily too salty sour sweet foods Junk foods Carbonated/soft drinks Maida and its products
