hello Jatin ,
Thank you for sharing. At 21, experiencing hair fall and dandruff together can feel frustrating but it’s also your body’s way of telling you something is imbalanced, and the good news is that with the right steps, it can be reversed. Let’s understand what might be going on and how to address it deeply, not just at the surface. Why hair fall and dandruff happen (according to Ayurveda): Hair health is governed by Rakta (blood), Asthi (bone tissue), and mainly Pitta dosha. When Pitta becomes aggravated due to heat in the body, poor digestion, spicy or fried food, stress, late nights, and nutrient deficiency it affects the scalp’s nourishment. This causes weak roots, excess oil, itching, or dandruff. At the same time, Vata imbalance can cause dryness and hair breakage.
Also, mental stress, irregular meals, poor sleep, excessive screen time, or sudden weight loss can trigger early hair fall.
Let’s now move to your treatment plan.
1. Ama Pachana & Scalp Detox (First 5 days)
To clear toxins and regulate scalp secretions: Triphala Churna – ½ tsp with warm water at bedtime (cleanses gut and skin from inside) Neem leaf decoction – Boil 10 fresh neem leaves in 1 cup water, strain, and drink every alternate morning for 5 days Avoid dairy + fruit combinations and deep-fried food
2. Internal Medications (Start after 5 days) Bhringarajasava – 15 ml with equal water twice daily after food Chyawanprash – 1 tsp every morning (improves immunity, nourishes hair root) Amlaki Rasayana – ½ tsp daily with warm water in the evening (for scalp clarity and Pitta balance) Ashwagandha Churna – ¼ tsp with warm milk at night (only if digestion is okay)
3. External Treatment Scalp Oil: Mix equal parts Neelibhringadi Tailam + Kuntalakanti Tailam. Warm slightly and apply to scalp thrice a week. Leave overnight or at least 2 hours before wash.
Hair Wash: Use Shikakai + Amla + Reetha powder boiled in water (strain and use liquid) OR a mild Ayurvedic shampoo like Satthwa or Soultree. Dandruff Scalp Pack (Weekly once): 2 tsp Triphala powder 2 tsp hibiscus leaf powder Mix with aloe vera juice or curd, apply on scalp for 20 mins, wash off with lukewarm water
4. Diet and Lifestyle Tips Avoid skipping meals or eating at irregular times Drink warm water throughout the day Include soaked black raisins (7) + almonds (5) every morning Use cow ghee in food – 1 tsp daily helps nourish hair roots Reduce spicy, sour, fermented, and junk food intake Sleep by 10:30 pm – very important for hormonal balance and hair strength
Investigations Suggested Just to rule out hidden causes: Serum Vitamin D3 Serum Ferritin Vitamin B12 Thyroid Profile CBC
Hair regrowth takes consistency, but with this approach, you’re addressing not just dandruff or hair fall but the reason it started. Your body wants to heal give it the time, patience, and nourishment it needs, and it will respond beautifully.
Warm regards, Dr. Karthika

Hair fall and dandruff can be frustrating conditions, with multiple contributing factors like stress, diet, and lifestyle, among others. In Siddha-Ayurvedic view, hair fall is often linked to an imbalance in the doshas, particularly a Vata-Pitta imbalance, which disrupts the nutritional and hormonal support that the hair needs.
To address these concerns, begin by focusing on your diet to balance your doshas. Incorporate plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals while avoiding excessive caffeine, spicy, and acidic foods, which can aggravate Pitta. Staying hydrated is crucial, so drink plenty of water throughout the day alongside herbal teas like Brahmi or Amla, which can support hair health.
First, tackle dandruff, as it can contribute significantly to hair fall. Regular use of neem oil can help combat dandruff due to its antifungal properties. Apply it directly to the scalp, let it sit for 30-45 minutes, and then wash with a mild herbal shampoo. For further support, focus on keeping stress levels low as stress can exacerbate Vata imbalance, intensifying hair loss.
To encourage regrowth, consider applying a hair treatment made from a paste of amla and bhringraj. Mix equal parts of these powders with water to form a paste, apply to your scalp, and leave it for about an hour before rinsing off. This blend can nourish the sapta dhatus, supporting hair growth.
Massage the scalp regularly with warm coconut oil or sesame oil to improve blood circulation in the nadis, which promotes hair strength. Aim to do this at least twice a week. Meditation and yoga can also play a role in reducing stress in harmony with these practices.
Understanding that patience and consistency are key, these interventions should support healthful changes in hair quality over time. However, if despite these measures, hair fall persists severely, it is essential to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to rule out any underlying medical conditions that might need special attention.
Hair fall and dandruff issues are often interconnected and can stem from various causes, such as hormonal imbalances, poor nutrition, stress, and improper hair care routines. Within Ayurveda, understanding your dosha (body constitution) is key to identifying the root cause of hair issues. Dandruff can be a result of Vata or Kapha imbalance whereas hair fall often indicates a Pitta dosha imbalance.
1. Dietary Changes: Prioritize a diet rich in biotin, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, and proteins. Foods like spinach, almonds, walnuts, and flaxseeds are excellent. A handful of curry leaves daily can also support hair health, as they are rich in antioxidants.
2. Hair Oiling: Regularly apply warm bhringraj or amla oil. A gentle, weekly scalp massage with these oils can help balance Vata and Pitta doshas, and they promote circulation, strengthen hair roots, and reduce breakage. Ensure the oil is warm before application to improve absorption.
3. Lifestyle Modifications: Stress is a common contributor to hair fall. Incorporate yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) into your daily routine to reduce stress levels. Adequate sleep is also crucial for maintaining healthy hair.
4. Scalp Care: For dandruff, prepare a paste using neem leaves and apply it on the scalp for about 30 minutes before washing. The antimicrobial properties of neem help alleviate dandruff and soothe inflammation.
5. Herbal Solutions: Consuming herbal teas made from tulsi, brahmi, or ashwagandha can nourish hair from the inside, as they work to calm the mind and reduce stress-induced damage.
6. Preventive Measures: Avoid exposing your hair to excessive heat or harsh chemicals, as these can exacerbate damage. Instead, air dry your hair and opt for natural hair care products free from sulfates and parabens.
