I have Gall stone of size 6.9 mm. - #31275
I recently faced an event of bloating and sudden pain in my stomach, but when I went to get my ultrasound done I have been told that I have gall stones of average size 6.9 mm. Is there any medicine in ayurveda that can help me to get rid of it?

Certainly, gallstones within the size of 6.9 mm can often be managed with Ayurvedic approaches, depending on your overall health and specific constitution, or prakriti. Ayurveda considers gallstones to be a manifestation of an imbalance, particularly an increase in the Pitta dosha, which is related to heat and bile production. Here are some Ayurvedic remedies and lifestyle changes that might help:
1. Herbal remedies: Trikatu, made of ginger, black pepper, and long pepper, can help enhance digestion and break down the stones slowly. Take it with honey, half a teaspoonful after meals twice a day. Another helpful combination is Punarnava, Gokshura, and Daruharidra, which can support the liver. Consuming these herbs in powdered form, one spoon with warm water post meals, might assist in the process.
2. Dietary adjustments: Focus on a Pitta-pacifying diet. Avoid fried, spicy foods, and excessively oily items. Incorporate cooling drinks like buttermilk and coconut water into your diet. Eating fresh, cooling foods such as cucumber, watermelon, and green leafy vegetables can help maintain balance. Use spices like turmeric and cumin, which are known for their digestive aiding qualities.
3. Hydration: Drinking adequate amounts of water is vital. Warm water, in particular, will help in maintaining smooth digestive pathways.
4. Exercise and lifestyle: Engage in daily physical activity like yoga or brisk walking to aid digestion and circulation. The practice of certain yoga poses like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Dhanurasana (Bow Pose) may support liver functionality and easing symptoms.
5. Practices like Oil Pulling: Utilizing sesame oil first thing in the morning may help detoxify your system. This traditional practice can be done daily for about 5 minutes and supports oral and general health.
However, it’s essential to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any new treatment plan, especially if you have any other underlying conditions. If symptoms worsen or persist, or if there’s intense pain, it’s crucial to seek immediate medical intervention to rule out complications like obstruction, which requires surgical management occasionally.
Gall stones, particularly those around 6.9 mm in size, can sometimes be addressed using Ayurvedic principles, especially if they are asymptomatic and not causing major issues. However, always remember that if there’s severe pain, infection, or complications, one should seek immediate conventional medical treatment.
In the Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, gallstones are seen as imbalances in the doshas, primarily Pitta and Kapha. Here are a few ways you might balance these doshas and potentially support the digestive system to manage stones:
1. Herbal Formulations: Consider using formulations like Patolakaturohinyadi Kwath or Arogyavardhini Vati. These are known to help in balancing Pitta and supporting liver health. Ensure you consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for specific dosages.
2. Dietary Adjustments: Incorporate a Pitta-Kapha pacifying diet. Avoid oily, spicy, and fried foods which can aggravate Pitta and cause more bile congestion. Go for more bitter and astringent tastes which naturally help reduce Pitta.
3. Hydration: Drinking adequate amounts of warm water with lemon, especially early in the morning, can promote liver function and bile flow. However, monitor the body’s response and avoid overconsumption.
4. Triphala: It acts as a powerful cleansing agent. Taking a teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water, before bedtime, may aid digestion and help clear dosha imbalances.
5. Lifestyle Practices: Stress management through yoga and pranayama can help maintain the balance of doshas, especially in a stressed liver and gallbladder.
Regular follow-up with both Ayurvedic and conventional practitioners is key for tracking the condition and preventing complications. If any severe symptoms like intense pain, fever, or jaundice appear, prioritize urgent medical intervention.
