Doctors' responses

Don’t worry Nikhil

First we can focus on insomnia. Sleep disturbances will cause so many other issues. Tachycardia, memory issues, tremors etc can be correlated to this.

1. Drakshadi kashaya 15 ml + 45 ml lukewarm water twice daily before food. 2. Nasya with ksheerabala 101A - 2 drops in each nostril in empty stomach at early morning after a steam inhalation and overall face massage with same oil. 3. Aswagandha choornam+ jadamansi choornam 1/2 each at night. 4. Talam with ksheerabala tailam at evening and rub off with a towel. Then apply kachooradi choornam.

Take care. You will get better sleep with these medicines.

Hyperthyroidism involves an overactive thyroid gland that produces excessive hormones, rapidly affecting different body functions. While it is typically not life-threatening with proper treatment, unaddressed hyperthyroidism can lead to serious complications, thus requiring careful attention and management. Ayurveda, grounded in balancing the body’s doshas, can provide complementary solutions to help manage symptoms and improve your overall wellbeing.

For managing hyperthyroidism using Ayurvedic principles, it’s important to focus on calming the Pitta dosha, which is typically aggravated in this condition. Begin with your diet. Incorporate cooling foods like cucumber, coconut water, and sweet fruits like pear or grapes. Avoid spicy, fried, and fermented foods, which can aggravate Pitta further. Ensure adequate hydration with room temperature or warm water to support your digestion, or agni.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) are beneficial herbs in Ayurveda that help in reducing stress, supporting the nervous system, and they might help balance thyroid hormones. It’s advised to use these under the guidance of a qualified practitioner, who can monitor doses and compatibility.

Insomnia, often exacerbated by hyperthyroidism symptoms, also needs attention. Establish a calming bedtime routine. Consider warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg before bed—this could aid sleep. Try incorporating relaxing practices like yoga nidra or guided meditation to unwind.

Routine also plays a crucial role; maintain a regular sleep-wake cycle. Create a cool, dark, and quiet environment to facilitate restful sleep. In addition, moderate physical activity like walking or gentle yoga can help stabilize the nervous system and aid hormonal balance.

Given your symptoms are significantly affecting daily life, it’s essential to collaborate with your healthcare provider for regular monitoring and adjustments. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner and a conventional healthcare provider concurrently for an integrated approach. Balancing Ayurveda’s natural treatments while overseeing your condition medically can offer the best chance at stabilizing your health.

Managing hyperthyroidism requires a careful, integrative approach, and while it’s not typically life-threatening, untreated hyperthyroidism can lead to serious health complications over time, like heart problems and bone loss. However, with proper treatment, many people can effectively manage their symptoms and live a healthy life.

First, from an Ayurvedic perspective, hyperthyroidism is often linked with an imbalance in Pitta dosha, which can lead to the symptoms you’re experiencing like heat intolerance and irritability. To balance Pitta, you could try incorporating cooling foods and practices into your daily routine. Include more sweet, bitter, and astringent foods in your diet like coconut water, leafy greens, and pears. Avoid spicy, oily, and sour foods which can aggravate Pitta.

For insomnia, which might be linked to Vata imbalances, establishing a calming nighttime routine can be beneficial. Consider practices like Abhyanga (self-massage) with calming oils like sesame or coconut oil. Diffusing essential oils such as lavender or sandalwood in your bedroom can also promote restfulness. Adopting practices like meditation or pranayama could enhance relaxation and support sound sleep.

Make sure you’re getting regular check-ups with an endocrinologist to monitor your thyroid levels. Adjustments in medication or further medical intervention may be necessary to prevent potential complications. Also, consider consulting with an Ayurveda practitioner who can personalize your treatment plan. Anything involving severe symptoms, like persistent tachycardia or memory issues, should be evaluated by a healthcare provider. Prioritize your safety and peace of mind above all else.
