Hypothyroidism can lead to symptoms like fatigue, forgetfulness, and joint swelling. Ayurveda can offer a pathway to balance your doshas and support the thyroid gland. Start by embracing a diet that emphasizes warm, cooked foods. Focus on including whole grains such as quinoa and barley, which help maintain energy and support the thyroid function. Avoid processed foods and excessive raw foods which can dampen digestive fire or agni.

Incorporate spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric in your meals - they encourage better digestion and help reduce inflammation. Nuts and seeds, particularly sunflower or pumpkin seeds, should be moderated as they can have a dampening effect on the thyroid. Instead, prioritize a handful of soaked almonds daily.

Vegetables like carrots, spinach, and zucchini are especially beneficial. Gently cook them to preserve their nourishment without taxing your digestion. Minimize cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and cabbage as they can interfere with thyroid function when consumed excessively or raw.

Include fruits rich in antioxidants like berries in your diet, they support cognitive health and energy levels. Staying hydrated with warm water or herbal teas is also crucial, but avoid cold and iced beverages. Consider herbal brews made from ginger, which naturally aid digestion and reduce lethargy.

Try to establish a consistent routine for your meals and micro-manage stress through yoga or meditation. Regular and sufficient sleep is essential. Setting alarms or reminders for your medication can help address the forgetfulness mentioned.

Incorporating triphala at night can gently support digestion and detoxification. However, since you’re on medication, it’s wise to periodically consult with your healthcare provider to ensure there’s no conflict with prescribed treatments. Remember to prioritize your medical practitioner’s advice for any immediate adjustments and ensure safety in managing your condition.
