is mastrubation is harmful for heart - #37269
I am really curious about something that's been on my mind for a while now. So, I've been hearing mixed things about whether masturbation is harmful for heart health. I mean, I read some random stuff on the internet that made it sound super alarming like it could lead to heart problems! But then, I've also talked to friends and they say it’s totally normal and healthy. Just last week, I was feeling kinda anxious and I thought maybe my heart was racing more than usual after, but I wasn't sure if that was normal or like... a real sign of something bad? I've been trying to keep my lifestyle healthy overall—eating right, exercising—so does this mean I should be worried if I masturbate? It seems to be something everyone does, but then again, if it could really harm the heart, that’s kinda scary!!! The more I think about it, the more questions I have. Like, is there a limit, or can it be too much? I don’t wanna compromise my heart health over this, you know? It's just such a confusing topic! Can anyone share insights or experiences here? What does your research say?

Doctors’ responses
Masturbation itself does not have a direct negative effect on heart health. In Ayurvedic terms, it is generally considered a normal physiological activity and can be part of maintaining a balanced life when done in moderation. The concerns you have read about linking masturbation to heart problems seem to be more myth than fact. The racing heart you experienced afterwards could be due to temporary physiological changes, much like after physical exercise. This is usually a normal response due to an increased release of hormones and increased heart rate, but not harmful in a healthy individual.
In Ayurveda, balance is key. If an activity, including masturbation, is done excessively, it can disturb ojas, our vital essence, leading to weaknesses over time. It might deplete your energy levels, affect shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue), and can unbalance vata, which sometimes affects the nervous system. If you’re feeling anxious or if it is causing stress, it may be worth considering how it fits into your lifestyle and emotions.
A balanced lifestyle is important for heart health. Since you’re already focusing on eating well and exercising, integrating practices such as meditation and yoga could also help. These practices can aid in reducing any anxiety, which may indirectly help normalize your heart rate if stress is a concern. Pranayama, or breathing exercises, are particularly effective in balancing the mind and heart rhythm.
If you find yourself preoccupied or feeling guilty about it, that might be a sign to reassess. Reflect on whether masturbation aligns with your values and sense of wellbeing. Engaging in other fulfilling activities and tending to relationships can also help diluting any excessive focus.
Lastly, if you have lingering concerns about your heart or experience persistent unusual symptoms, seeking medical advice is recommended. Regular health check-ups can provide reassurance, making sure your heart is in good condition. If heart disease runs in your family, stay proactive in monitoring your cardiovascular health.
