is daily masturbation harmful - #38264

Hailey

I am really confused about something that's been on my mind for a while. I've read a lot about whether is daily masturbation harmful. I've been doing it every day for years, and I never thought it’d be an issue. But lately, I've felt kinda off, both physically and mentally. Like, my energy levels are lower and sometimes I even feel more anxious. Last week, I talked to a friend about it, and they mentioned that is daily masturbation harmful for health, which got me thinking. I've tried cutting back. But, honestly, when I don't, there's a level of stress relief I get, and its hard to let that go. I also read some articles saying moderation is key, but then other folks say daily habits can mess with your mind or hormones or whatever. Do you guys think is daily masturbation harmful over time? Or is it more about how it affects my life – like relationships or work? I guess I'm just looking for advice because I don’t want to make it a bigger deal than it needs to be, but I’m also sorta worried if it’s causing my fatigue or anxiety. Would love any insight. Thanks!

Doctors' responses

Your concerns about whether daily masturbation is harmful are quite commonly discussed, and Ayurveda offers some perspective on this. According to Ayurvedic principles, balance is key in all aspects of life, and this includes sexual practices like masturbation. Excessive masturbation can indeed lead to imbalances in Vata dosha, which might explain your feelings of fatigue and anxiety. Vata governs the nervous system, and when out of balance, it can contribute to conditions like anxiety and restlessness.

In Ayurveda, Ojas, or vitality, is considered vital for sustaining energy and overall wellbeing. Excessive masturbation may deplete Ojas, leading to feelings of fatigue and weakness. Think of it as burning your physical and mental fuel too quickly. Moderation here is defined not necessarily by frequency, but by how you feel and function in your daily life. If you notice that this habit leaves you feeling tired or affects your mental clarity, it might be worth considering moderation.

To balance Vata and support your energy levels, incorporating certain lifestyle changes can be beneficial. Practices like regular meditation, yoga, and pranayama (breathing exercises) can help to stabilize Vata and enhance relaxation and mindfulness, potentially reducing feelings of anxiety. Additionally, following a consistent routine with regular meals can help stabilize your energy.

Dietary modifications also play a crucial role. Warm, cooked foods, and healthy fats like ghee help pacify Vata. Include grounding foods such as root vegetables, whole grains, and maintain regular meal timings. Ensure you’re well-hydrated and consider herbal teas like ashwagandha or mulethi to nourish and balance the nervous system.

If you feel ongoing anxiety or fatigue, consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized plan that considers your unique dosha and lifestyle . Remember, balance doesn’t mean deprivation; it means approaching every aspect of life with mindfulness and awareness to ensure it truly serves your well-being.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, daily masturbation may influence your body and mind, especially if it’s become habitual or excessive. In Siddha-Ayurveda, we consider a balance of the doshas (vata, pitta, kapha), agni (digestive/metabolic fire), and sapta dhatus (seven tissues) crucial for health. Over-indulgence could lead to imbalances, potentially affecting ojas (vital essence), which is linked to energy and immunity.

When daily masturbation becomes excessive, it may cause vata dosha disturbances leading to anxiety and fatigue, which aligns with your experience. Masturbation itself isn’t inherently harmful, but reliance on it for stress relief might mask underlying imbalances or lifestyle issues needing attention.

Moderation is indeed key here. Consider reducing frequency gradually and observe changes in your energy and anxiety levels. Focus on nourishing your body and mind with wholesome foods rich in nutrients like almonds, dates, and ghee, which support ojas. Practice daily routines that strengthen your energy, like yoga or meditation, which also help calm the mind.

Additionally, ensure you engage in fulfilling activities, maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Importantly, ensure adequate sleep and hydration, as both are vital for stabilizing mood and energy.

If these adjustments don’t bring relief, it might be wise to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out other causes for your symptoms. Your wellbeing is essential, and personalized advice considering your prakriti (constitution) can offer further guidance.
