Skincare Advice for Oily Skin with Blackheads and Dark Complexion - #41996
Hello, I am a 19 year old girl. My skin type ranges from combination to oily. I also have blackheads and white heads and open pores. Near my eyebrows, and on my upper cheeks, i have some very small black bumps , don't know what they are called, but i think they are from previous pimples maybe? My face is slightly darker than my neck and hands, and my overall complexion kinda gets darker than usual in winter. I use a lemon based oil control facewash (ingredients: EDTA, glycerine, salycilic acid, ammonium lorath sulfate, carbomer, cocamido propyl butane, cocodiethanol amide, sodium hydroxide, eprict shell powder, lemon peel extract, PGE 40 hydrogenated, castor oil, DMDM hydantoine, scented oil). My moisturizer is a one for combination and oily skin, that is also citrus based. i skip sunscreen most of the time, but when i do use, i use the missha cotton sunscreen spf 50. I think my lips are also getting kinda dark, i want them pink naturally. Please suggest some good products and a good skincare routine according to my skin type and also advice me on what exactly i should do in order to get rid of all the mentioned problems( like switching products, improving routine, or food habits etc.). Also, i know sunscreen is important. Now do i have to use sunscreen even when im indoors, and should i use sunscreen with different spfs in and out? Will using sunscreen with high spf harm my skin? If switching products is recommended, then please provide suggestions with brand names . (i cover my face with a scarf when i go out to protect from sun). Also do rays from digital screen harm the skin? like do they have uv rays, and do i need to wear sunscreen even at night if im working in front of screens? . Thank you.

Dear friend You need personal consultation.
For your skin concerns, let’s address them with an Ayurvedic approach. Your combination to oily skin, blackheads, and whiteheads suggest a Kapha-Pitta imbalance. Such imbalances benefit from cleansing, cooling, and detoxifying remedies, both internally and externally.
First, your current facewash seems too harsh with EDTA and ammonium lorath sulfate. Consider switching to a milder option such as cleansers with neem or turmeric extracts, known for their antibacterial properties; you might try Himalaya Purifying Neem facewash. For moisturizer, continue with light, non-comedogenic formulations; gel-based ones containing aloe vera should be soothing.
For the uneven complexion, especially in winter, focus on nourishing and hydrating the skin. Incorporate a gentle exfoliation with a homemade scrub made of chickpea flour, turmeric, and milk, used 2-3 times weekly. This exfoliates while evening out skin tone. As for those dark bumps, they may be post-acne hyperpigmentation; applying a paste of sandalwood and rosewater overnight can help to lighten these areas naturally.
With sunscreen, yes, it’s vital both indoors and outdoors as screens emit blue light, possibly affecting skin health. Prefer a mineral-based sunscreen with zinc oxide which offers broad-spectrum protection without harsh chemicals. Using a consistent SPF of 30-50 should suffice; switching SPFs is unnecessary. Remember, nothing over SPF 50 offers significantly better protection, so opting for higher SPF won’t harm but may lead to unwanted residue. Indoors, maintain protection with a lower SPF if you’re exposed to screens for extended periods. At night, however, focus on skin repair rather than protection; a simple nourishing routine is best.
For lip pigmentation, apply a mix of honey and lemon juice or ghee before bed. It naturally lightens lips while moisturizing them.
Internally, modify your diet to reduce Kapha and Pitta aggravating foods. These include minimizing deep-fried, oily, and spicy foods. Instead, favor more astringent fruits and leafy greens. Drink warm water with lemon daily, and practice eating meals at regular intervals for stable digestion.
While I can suggest Ayurvedic practices and products, always test any new product on a small area to check for adverse reactions. Avoid product recommendations by specific brands without understanding ingredient compatibility with your skin type; consider these pointers as a guide toward holistic care adapted to your unique skin journey.
