Melasma, particularly when persisting for several years, can indicate an imbalance in your doshas—specifically Pitta. This imbalance, especially considering your menopausal status, can manifest as increased skin pigmentation. Addressing the root cause and balancing your body holistically may provide relief. Firstly, let’s focus on calming the Pitta. Incorporate cooling, pitta-pacifying foods like cucumber, cilantro, and coconut water into your diet. Avoid spicy, sour, and fermented foods that might aggravate Pitta.

For topical treatment, consider preparing a herbal paste using turmeric and sandalwood. Mix a pinch of turmeric powder with a bit of sandalwood powder and rose water to create a paste, apply this gently to affected areas and rinse off after about 20 minutes. This has anti-inflammatory and skin-lightening properties. Be cautious with turmeric use though, as it can stain your skin yellow if used excessively.

Another approach is regulating your Agni, or digestive fire, which is central to processing nutrients effectively. Try Triphala powder—½ teaspoon with warm water, taken at night—to enhance digestion and promote detoxification. This may help in balancing doshas over time.

Avoid exposure to direct sunlight as this can aggravate Melasma. When heading out, cover your face with a wide-brimmed hat or apply a natural sunblock like aloe vera. Staying hydrated and practicing mindfulness activities or gentle yoga can also help manage stress, which sometimes exacerbates skin conditions.

Since there are hormonal elements likely involved, monitoring your lifestyle is key. Consider regular sleeping patterns and manage stress through meditation or pranayama. Ayurvedic massages with oils like Kumkumadi taila may also improve skin tone over time. Continued practice and consistency with these methods is crucial; always consult a local Ayurvedic practitioner if needed for guidance tailored to your specific constitution.

Melasma, often linked to hormonal changes, can especially become prominent around menopause. In Siddha-Ayurvedic terms, this may be attributed to a pitta imbalance affecting the skin. Firstly, internal balance is crucial. Focus on cooling pitta by incorporating a predominantly plant-based diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Avoid spicy, fried, and overly sour foods as these can aggravate pitta.

For your skin, topical treatments play an important role. Prepare a paste with turmeric (curcuma longa) and sandalwood powder mixed with rose water. Apply this on your cheeks daily, leaving it on for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and may help lighten pigmentation while safeguarding skin health.

A herbal infusion made from Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia) could assist internally. Steep half a teaspoon of Manjishtha powder in hot water for 10 minutes and drink it once a day. This herb is known for cleansing impurities from blood, helping in achieving even skin tone.

Maintain a consistent skincare regime involving natural, mild ingredients. Avoid chemical-laden cosmetics that might exacerbate melasma. Protect your skin from direct sunlight by wearing a wide-brimmed hat and using a natural sunscreen. Sun exposure can worsen melasma, so this is essential even in daily routine.

Simple breathing exercises like Pranayama can aid in stress reduction, which is key as stress might further exacerbate skin issues. Practice Pranayama for 10 minutes daily to support your overall well-being and hormonal balance.

Implementing these practices diligently can gradually help in managing melasma. Be patient since natural remedies take time and consistency. Lastly, consider consulting with a healthcare professional for a full assessment to avoid overlooking any other health factors.
