Doctors' responses

No worries start on Kanchanar guggulu Medhohara vati 1 tablet each twice daily after food with warm water Triphala churna 1 teaspoon with warm water at night Drink warm water throughout the day If walking is not possible, at least try to do some yoga daily if you do only Surya namaskara, then it is fine Take two meals in a day Avoid oily fried junk processed, packaged food

Balancing thyroid function and losing weight involves a multi-faceted approach, especially when physical activity becomes challenging. From an Ayurvedic standpoint, let’s delve into a holistic strategy. Firstly, addressing the thyroid is crucial. Hypothyroidism often correlates with a Kapha imbalance, leading to weight gain and sluggish metabolism. Begin by incorporating herbs like Guggal and Kanchanar which are known to balance thyroid function. Make a mix of equal parts of these powders, take half a teaspoon with warm water twice a day, an hour after meals.

Moving on to diet, focus on reducing Kapha-aggravating foods. Avoid dairy, processed sugars, and cold foods. Incorporate warming spices like turmeric, ginger, and black pepper into your meals to boost your digestive fire, Agni. A simple trikatu formula, combining these spices, can be taken with warm water before meals to enhance digestion. Ensure your meals are light and easily digestible, favoring steamed or grilled vegetables and lean proteins – eat early dinner before 7 pm if feasible.

Although intense exercise may not suit your condition immediately, consider starting with yoga practices such as Surya Namaskar to gently invigorate your body without strain. Breathing exercises like Kapalabhati pranayama can also help boost metabolism— start with 5 minutes every morning on an empty stomach.

Lifestyle changes are equally important. Regular sleep patterns support thyroid function, aiming for 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Use sesame oil for self-massage (abhyanga) to invigorate the system. Rub this oil, warm, over your body in circular motions before showering.

Finally, consult your primary healthcare practitioner to regularly monitor thyroid hormone levels. Do not tweak prescribed thyroid medications without medical advice. These holistic measures can complement your existing treatments without replacing them. Note any symptoms indicating thyroid irregularities, such as excessive fatigue, unexpected weight changes, or difficulty adapting to temperature, and consult your healthcare provider promptly.
